Extra knob on Jamie Moses' Red Special

Has anyone noticed this yet?

Does anyone know what it does?

But the guitar on the pic doesn't seem to have any extra knob, it looks like a loyal replica. Was Jamie's guitar customized for him?

Good question! I'd been wondering that too. I suppose it may control the tone of a particular pickup (in a current switching) rather than the main one being an overall tone change. Or maybe it's some kind of alternate way of messing with the phase between the two pickups. I'm not sure. But today, on my newly modified Hohner (with Burns Trisonics), I found that I can alter something between the 2 pickups I have wired up, with just the tone pots. It's not turning anything off because there's still sound when both are turned down. Maybe phase based!I think it's a fluke on my part that it happened this way, but hey, I like it!

Isn't that where the volume control is on a strat? You can't do volume swells with the usual positions.

No. And yes you can do volume swells easily with a normal positioned volume knob. It just takes practice. That picture shows it pretty high which would be a strange spot for that. It would also be easier to put in a volume pedal instead of modifying a guitar to include a higher positioned volume knob! The hands are too busy either picking, on the trem bar or holding a note on the fretboard.

That guitar knob is proving an interesting piece here...

Yes it is where the volume control is on a strat, Jamies regular style of guitar.
It used to be fairly common to see guitars customized and have the volume in this position.
Almost certainly a volume control.
