ok, this is a Joke. People who posted above me don't know shit. All the biggest bands of the 80's till today were influenced by queen in one way or another, and no matter what the so called queenmoaners say wont change that. yes, the pop singers were influenced by queen, but so were guns and roses, green day, metallica, def lepperd, van halen, foo fighters/nirvana, motely crew, the cars, tool, dream theater.... Also, early Judas priest, Iron maiden, death angel. Ok, now what!....come on I'm waiting. Queen are one of the few bands that influenced a wide range of music. Black sabbath and Judas priest/Iron maiden were a huge influence to hard rock metal, but queen's influence was much wider. Holly, how old are you?....are you aware of the freddie tribute concert?
Freddie Tribute Concert? Wasn't that when a bunch of 'has beens' and 'never was's came out of the woodwork to murder Brian May songs?
Anyway. I don't claim that my opinion is correct, only that it's my opinion. I've been a queen fan since around 1979, but I rocked out to BoRap when it first came out: is that old enough for you? And while yor in question-answering mood, maybe you could provide a list of Queen songs covered by decent bands before Freddie died?

holly again showing ingorance. Metallica was in their prime, GNR was in their prime. Lepperd were in their prime, seal and george micheal were in their prime. Bowie, plant, daltry are some of the biggest stars of their generation. How old are you holly?

before freddie died?...why before freddie died?.....the bottom line is that under pressure, stone cold crazy, sheer heart attack, bo rhap (dream theater) live GNR, tool, foo fighters, def lepperd, lol. Sarah brightman (who wants to live forever) liza (champions) celen dion (tsmgo) diana ross (cltcl). their influence is bigger now than it ever was. Soemtimes you don't know what you have till it's gone.

Because when Queen were an ongoing band, from 1973 to the mid 1980s, hardly anyone of note said they were influenced by Queen and few if any bands of note covered any of their songs. On the other hand, as I said earlier, Bob Dylan songs have been covered by a huge range of artists, many of them well-respected.
Maybe it is the case that "Soemtimes you don't know what you have till it's gone" - in fact, I would probably agree with that to a large extent. However, if you're as old as you say you are, then you're probably aware that Queen were never a very fashionable band among journalists or other musicians and that a lot of their popularity came in the wake of Freddie's much-publicised death.
It's good to see bands like Metallica acknowledge Queen as an influence. But then again, I said that earlier, in among all the other err.. "shit"

bob dylan is overall a bigger influence than anyone in pop history, so why keep mentioning him. Nobody besided the beatles were a bigger influence than him. they were all shit?....foo fighters are shit?...tori amos?....dream theater?.....maiden?.....sarah brightman?.....wow. that's a lot of crap.

Hi, Mike.
Sorry. I deeply respect your opinion and I'd love to be wrong in this account, so I ask you to please correct me if I'm not getting this straight.
I'm a huge fan of Tori Amos, I think she's one of the most interesting artists who came up in the early 1990s and I have never, ever read that Queen was among her biggest influences. I read or watched I don't know how many interviews done by her, and she never mentioned Queen as an infuence. She has been doing covers ever since she showed up and there's no recording of her covering any Queen song. And she covered artists ranging from Alice Cooper and Slayer to Madonna, ABBA and Oasis. As she herself said, though, it was often the case that she'd cover an artist she didn't like just to give herself a challenge and see whether she could make a particular song sound decent to her ears, cause she thought the song had some potential.
I don't mean any disrespect, it's just my opinion. I think that, apart from Nirvana, she's the only one among the artists you mentioned that really had something interesting and different to bring to the music world. Don't shoot me! It's just my very personal opinion and taste. :-)))
I'd have loved to listen to her covering Queen songs, but it never happened. I hope I'm wrong, really!
No need to get worried about my opinion, though! I'm just 18 and, differently from dear users Holly, Micrówave or TQ, I'm not a musician, I never composed anything and I have never been in a band!
It's just my way of taking part in a discussion in which all of you who are debating this know much more than me, in all honesty and without putting myself down. I'm here just to have fun and learn, really.
My best wishes,
Yara

for example "Street of Dreams" from Chinese Democracy is a very Queenish song...the same for "This love"....
Exactly. In fact, "Catcher In The Rye" off Chinese Democracy is one of the Queenest songs on GNR's catalog and Axl invited Brian May to play the solo. Great song!

Tommy Shaw of Styx was influenced by Freddie

Unfortunately the solo got dropped even though the demo was clearly better than the one on the released album (IMO)

This was a nice post but with regard to your question it is really funny how the pages turn. I think that all those artists appreciate nowadays the intelligence in Queen music in contrast to lyrics and music ignorance and sometimes even perversions such as "in da club" or "please don't stop the, please don't stop the, please don't stop the" (lyrically wise) for instance. The world has also changed and being a gay is not something that you should be ashamed of. I am only sorry that Freddie couldn't see his legacy the way it is now.

Well, that's a pretty broad paintbrush, then, TQ. So does that mean if I wrote a song while I was thinking about hot man-on-man action at Freddie's birthday party with one of the midgets, then I guess I was inspired by Freddie?
Actually, I wasn't trying to say that those artists don't "sound" like Freddie. I just think Freddie would dismiss it as rubbish like the rest of us should. Katie Perry? Celine Dion? Give me a break.
Influence can be very subtle but decisive. For example: you could be influenced by Debussy in using 7th and 9th chords as stable (consonant) rather than passing chords (dissonant) which is the orthodox view. The music you write with that concept in mind could sound nothing like Debussy's at all, yet his influence would be there. Compare, for instance, Duke Ellington to Debussy; the former was heavily influenced by the latter in his harmonies, but you will agree they sounded very little alike.

If you listen to Mr. Zebra there's freddie influence in that song, also, I don't think queen were one of tori all time favorites, but she did mention freddie as one of her favorite singers. Nirvana was one of the most overated crap bands I ever heard. If you think a list of GNR, metallica, stone temple pilots, tool, foo fighters, muse, styks, the cars, sarah brightman, van halen, maiden, priest, arn't interesting musicians your in denial.

Queen's influence to do harmonies was The Beach Boys.
When Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody, it actually scared Brian Wilson.
