Axl Rose is the only one in that list that makes honor to Queen...just because he is a "real" fan as we all are...imo!
Gerard Way is better than Axl. Axl Rose sounds like some guy with a big 12 inch shoved it down his throat, to be honest.

I'm not a big fan of Axl, and he's a big asshole... But he was a GnR member and he came up with Chinese Democracy. Gerard Way is just a whiny emo, and really, you've picked the wrong forum to defend him.

>I'm a huge fan of Tori Amos, I think she's one of the most interesting
artists who came up in the early 1990s and I have never, ever read that
Queen was among her biggest influences. I read or watched I don't know
how many interviews done by her, and she never mentioned Queen as an
infuence. <
Hi, I'm new....I just wanted to pop in to say that Tori has mentioned Freddie, even going so far as to say she "adores" him. She said in an interview that he even "helped" her write her song "Sugar," from a spiritual place. She was having trouble getting inspired to write, and she "heard" his voice singing to her. Now, I love Tori, but some people think she's a little odd for "hearing" voices giving songs to her. But anyway, that's what she said. And I can see the Freddie influence there, in some of her songs. She even wore sequined jumpsuits on her last tour! If you haven't heard her song "Sugar" I highly recommend the Hard Rock Live version. It's on YouTube.

Hi, Justathought!
Welcome to Queenzone! I hope you're doing fine and you enjoy the website! :-)
I think this serves as a reply to dear Mike Hunt too.
I'm a huge fan of Tori Amos too. I love her music. I do know the song you're refering to there, but I don't see much influence by Queen. Again, saying that she was inspired by Freddie's voice doesn't mean she was inspired by Queen, the band, and the sound they made - these are very different things. Just like Steve Vai would rank Brian May as his all-time favorite guitar players, but not Queen as his all-time favorite bands.
It's admiration from singer to singer, it's quite normal and even trivial, I'd say. Tori said so in regard to singers who are not even good to most of people's standards, and even there, with regard to Freddie, I think she was trying to play the "weird card" of her amusing character, given the fact that he died and so on.
So, if Queen's influence on Tori amos is the voice of Freddie inspiring her to make a single song, well, then I think there's no influence at all.
Again, just an admiration for one of Queen's members, which is a different thing and all too common.
Having Queen as one the biggest influences or favorite acts is another thing alltogether - she didn't by any stretch of imagination, though she admired Freddie; pretty much as Steve Vai admired, among many others, Brian May.
It's necessary to separate the very talented members of the band from the total output, I guess.
Take care, I wish you the best and, most importantly, have a wondeful sunday!!!

for example "Street of Dreams" from Chinese Democracy is a very Queenish song...the same for "This love"....
Exactly. In fact, "Catcher In The Rye" off Chinese Democracy is one of the Queenest songs on GNR's catalog and Axl invited Brian May to play the solo. Great song!
Unfortunately the solo got dropped even though the demo was clearly better than the one on the released album (IMO)
^yeah, I agree. The official song on the released album is an utter mess.
Another big musician from the 1990s influenced by Queen was Trent Reznor from NIN. He made remixes of Tie Your Mother Down and Stone Cold Crazy. And NIN's cover of Get Down Make Love is not bad eh?

The only reason Chinese Democracy has so much publicity, is because it took Axl a hundred years to complete that waste of an album.
The only reason Chinese Democracy has so much publicity, is because it took Axl a hundred years to complete that waste of an album.

The only reason MCR has so much publicity is because emo crap is the fashion among whiny teenagers who, like you, seem to love making up new problems and whining about them to the whole world rather than just shutting the fuck up and trying to solve some actual problems.
Now, in defense of Chinese Democracy, who cares whether it's got lots of publicity or not? I actually didn't like the idea of Axl releasing something under the band's name, after what happened between him and the other guys. When I first heard the album, I thought it sounded nothing like GnR and for that I "disliked" the album. After giving it another chance, I did realise it's a very creative album, with many great songs, with many different songs... Axl and his new band combined many different genres, and it worked very well. Each song sounds very different from the rest of them and very different from what you'd expect from something released as a "Guns'n'Roses" album. And that, Jake, is something you can't say about any MCR album, since pretty much all the songs are the same punk-ish power chords crap with the same whiny voice screaming whiny teeny lyrics.

I still dislike Axl a lot as a person, and his voice can be annoying sometimes and Chinese Democracy definitely isn't GnR... But damn, he did manage to make something even better than GnR.

C'mon, Raf, stop thinking about the teenaged girls that you ask to send you naked photos of themselves, on MSN, and be realistic, 'cause...
... you obviously haven't heard much My Chemical Romance, and Gerard Way doesn't have a whiny voice, Billy Corgan does though, and I think Axl Rose has a husky whiny voice... I should be paid to listen to him sing. How can you like a woman beater, anyways? He beats on women. I don't get the "My Chemical Romance is emo" bullshit, man. I don't hear anything promoting suicide, or seeking attention in the songs. I don't hear Gerard singing about cutting himself, though I imagine Axl has sung about that kind of thing. I hear more 'emo' in Queen, than I do in My Chemical Romance, to be honest.

Are you too dumb to READ? Like I said at least twice on this thread, I DO acknowledge Axl isn't a nice person. I don't support his actions, I don't support him using his former band's name... But he DID make a great album.
MCR isn't about attention seeking, and neither are your posts, right?

trent and NIN's Is Just more proof of my point. Bands like sabbath, priest, maiden influenced pretty much every hard rock metal band, but queen's influence was wider than those bands. When people like pink and timberlake are influenced by you, and then metallica and GNR, NIN and so on mention you, that's pretty impressive. Yara has said none of the bands mentioned have any input to the musical world, but as the names pile up, it's her/him who looks dumb.

I read EVERYTHING you write *a spooky theremin plays in the background*... and I saw what you wrote. If Axl was a child molester and there was proof via video he had been guilty of things such as that, I guarantee, you would not listen to him. SO, don't say you wouldn't judge him by his actions, because in that case, you would.
Let's back up here. I enjoy Guns N Roses, I guess I might be a typical fan, but not the type that rushes out and buys the new releases when they come out. Chinese Democracy? I've heard quite a bit through sources, and it can wait five years or so before I purchase it. But, in my opinion, Axl's voice isn't that much that I care about, though it does have some spark at times, and that's the God honest truth of my opinion. But I don't consider him a genious of any type. Chinese Democracy reminds me of Cosmos on steroids. Both seemingly expected. Axl is not as sophisticated as any members of Queen, or Brian Wilson for that matter, when it comes to composing songs.
How is My Chemical Romance, emo? What is emo about them?
My Chemical Romance has made three great studio albums, their last, is more Queen-like than anything Guns N Roses has done, particularly the vocal performence (admit it, Gerard might not sound like Freddie, but he sounds like Freddie more than Axl does). The guitar work? Ray Toro is very much influenced by Brian May, just take a listen and you'll see what I mean. And, they are very anti-emo, those boys are. In Gerard's words... "emo is fucking shit" ... it's like people assuming Queen is a gay band... people who don't explore something, don't know shit.

The funny thing is that all those artists claiming to be influenced by Queen doesnt sound ONE BIT as them, they simply cant write music at that level, green day, kate perry and pink? hahah what a joke. You can hear a lot more Queen influence in TM than any of those shitty artists.

I think the stuff Tommy Shaw wrote in Styx is the closest to sounding like Queen
