its gonna all end in tears..[or tear gas]..good job there's no World Championship Snooker on the tv or i WOULD say that history is repeating itself

Iran is a nation of kidnappers.
I was under the impression that Tehran expelled two British diplomats and the United Kingdom was doing something similar.

^yep,all true.
its why i keep harking on about the original uprising with the Shah's exile in 1979/1980/81 or whenever it was because the exact same things happened then.the 'tit for tat' diplomatic expulsions, then the hostage taking and then the SAS storming the embassy with the BBC's Kate Adie interupting the snooker with a live report. Now im no Mystic Meg but i wouldnt be surprised in the least if something along these lines occur very soon..

It was the Iran hostage crisis back in 79. It was American hostages then. I remember it although, I was allot younger at the time. I remember the hostages were released just before Reagan became president. They say history doesn't repeat itself, and hopefully it won't....who knows?
there was also the Iranian Embassy siege in London at around the same time which is what i am alluding to,the SAS ended storming the building from the balcony and shooting the terrorists and releasing the hostages all on live tv [bbc1],they cut away from the World Snooker Championships to cut to Kate Adie reporting from the scene,it also happened just after an Iranian sniper shot and killed unarmed policewoman Yvonne Fletcher in the Embassy area in London

I was aware of it, as were, I think, most people with an interest in American/military history. Usually, commanders of task forces, territorial divisions and expeditionary operations are chosen for their background in the area of operations, as they are likely to be at least somewhat familiar with the terrain and the population, and may even have useful connections there.

Oh, great. On the one side, we have the Mrs. Bad Guy-figure giving a good impression of a monkey slamming the 'Nuke' button, on the other we have Microwave being his regular obnoxious self, then there is YV who has taken out her blood-curdling political correctness act again, and fatty's too busy making fun of the non-recyclable parts of Michael Jackson to provide some comic relief here.

And then, as if it isn't enough, there is a post claiming that there are two Zoners who think they have the absolute answer to everything, and I'm not in the list!!!
Too be on the list Mr. Quinn you must earn it!

If being my regular obnoxious self increases the intellegence on this thread, which it did, then my mission is accomplished.  We're finally talking about the topic!!!

Maybe you could learn something, TQ.  Instead of obnoxiously attacking a post someone has made, try having something to back it up with.  Notice how Barb has left the thread?  Fatty has delivered.  I've hurled a few softballs.  And Mrs. Bad Guy hasn't hit the "Nuke-self" button yet.   4 out of 5 aint bad.

I even have you talking about politics and you haven't called anyone a nazi yet!!!

In the interest of something somewhat resembling critical discourse...what seems most problematic about how the world outside Iran (USA, in my particular case) views the situation...is the lack of a 'big picture' effectively describing the cycles of violence creating the 1953-55 coup, the subsequent cultural changes as the Shah of Pahlivi attempted to Westernise/modernize, enforcing change through SAVAK secret police, and the resulting Islamic revolution of 1979. To wit:

the July 1 2009 blog of Dr Alex Benzer on Huffington Post  "Why the Mullahs are un-Iranian: 7 Fatal Flaws" suggests that "mullahs who think it's ok to shoot protesters indiscriminately are not God-fearing...they fear the loss of their own entrenched, illicit power...they have resorted to...ungodly acts...to preserve that power..."
His most persuasive point is the use of the derisive term 'rishoo' for the long beard types in Iran, to illustrate the culture clash of personal style occurring in Teheran.

AND

Ervand Abrahamian's essay "Structural Causes of the Iranian Revolution" from the text Revolutions: Theoretical, Comparative, and Historical Studies (Goldstone, ed., 1986, isbn 0-15-576710-0),  details the state imposition of guilds and licensing practices, to interrupt the established and cherished Iranian bazaar culture.

In both instances the groups clinging to power create these boundaries between citizens and leaders that lead to violence, and given the seemingly less-than-representational nature of the recent Iranian election, the larger point here is drawing a connection to Lebanese elections as well, where political parties backed by Iran's Supreme Guardian Council leave little doubt that the region's instability is intricately linked with a popular desire for moderate, open, and representational government on one hand, and competing cultural values being rigidly enforced to encourage some kind of distinction from the West on the other.  No need to cut off any appendages here, though.  Hizbollah did not encourage Hariri's safety by any means.  The Chatham Institute in UK recently published a survey showing greater than 100% voter participation in some rural areas of Iran.  Who would have guessed the mullahs used the same script as JFK?

MrsBadGuy: that's a horrendous thing to say, totally shocking in this day and age. I mean, "should of"? What kind of idiot writes that.

To quote one of my favourite fims "What we got hyah, is failure to 'municate"*

Someone (let's call them Mrs Gad Buy) makes an ill-judged comment concerning a soloution to the problems in Iran. Along comes someone else (let's call them Bezonka12) who takes this comment seriously and chides Mrs Gad Buy for their staggering levels of ignorance on the subject.

At this point it might have been wiser for Mrs Gad Buy to point out that her (or is it his?) remarks were not supposed to be taken literally and were probably made just to express her (or is it his?) frustration at what seems to be a hopeless situation. Chances are, Bezonka12 would nod his (or is it her?....No it's definately a him, he's got a moustache. Mind you so has my wife.) head and hark back to a similar situation in which his use of the word "Faggot" was taken seriously and he was branded a homophobe. Realising that the whole thing had been a bit of a mis-understanding, things would soon return to normal. Mrs Gad Buy and Bezonka12 would become bosom buddies, romance would blossom and within a month or two they would marry. Providing of course that Mrs Gad Buy is in fact a female. After all it's a well known fact amongst Queenzoners that Bezonka12 hates queers.

Okay. Now that that's been sorted out I have a question of my own. Is it just me or does anyone else think that the holocaust never actually happened?
