I have been a big big fan since 1985, I was just a kid when I first heard them, and fell in love immediately.

The harmonies, the guitar tone (oh that tone) that mysterious yet amazing man with the hair, and later the tache ;).

Mr. Bad Guy was actually the first full (related) album I heard  other than Greatest Flix video and WWRY video (Rock Montreal). Queen II and AKOM were the next albums I heard but SHA was the first one I bought.

I lived and breathed Queen from the age of 9 till about 24 when I heard Jeff Buckley and finally realised there WAS more to life than Queen. Got my Burns BHM in december 01, and LOVE IT TO BITS - I want to get a Mini May and a BMG model too - Guytons etc. just a pipe dream.

I am here because I want to learn more about Queen, and be able to talk about them without the people around me rolling their eyes. To be able to be completely silly about my obsession and not feel bad to say I am a Mayniac more than I am a Mercurian :)

Why now? Well I was not always on the net - till late last year. Just in time for the release of that great album TCR, and I joined here then, but lurked for a long while till just a few weeks ago. Whatever may happen here (and a lot of shit does happen) we are all still fans of Queen and I am sure we all get that same feeling inside when we hear them or see them. Not much else in life compares to that feeling outside of sex and one or two other things LOL.

Rock on Queen!!

I'm going to bite too.

I'm not new to this site at all (joined back in 2003, I believe).  I'm 20 and live in PA, USA.  I became familiar with Queen the old fashioned way.  In July of 2003, I heard We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions on the radio and about a day later, on the same radio station, Bohemian Rhapsody.  To my surprise, after asking some friends, the three songs were all the same rock band -- up until this point I had never even heard of Queen.  That summer I bought Queen Greatest Hits (Hollywood) and listened to it non-stop -- and then bought Classic Queen.  From that point on I became a collector of their music and memorabelia.  CDs, shirts, posters. books, stickers, hats, LPs, DVDs, ... I never seem to get tired of their music and even have the Queen phoenix tattooed on my back.  I'm pretty damn sure I'm a fan for life.  I wouldn't want it any other way!

This is a dear, lovely and sweet lad. He's one of Queenzone's gems. Many of the most interesting threads were started by him and he has this wonderful quality of cleverly making his point while accepting disagreement as part of life. To sum up: a kind, thoughtful and civilized lad in this jungle. I never regret taking my time to read what he writes.

A lovely, lovely lad. One of these people who keep me from being an absolutely helpless and desperate nihilist.

You're too kind, Yara.  Your posts have always intrigued me and I consider you to be a gem on Queenzone too.  A true diamond in the ruff.  :)

@ Cacatua:

What is left you ask?  Well, to see the band live of course!  I've yet to accomplish this goal and sometimes I fear my time is up!

Ok, my turn. It's not easy to say- I'm from Ukraine. The country pretty notorious, but believe you or not, there are really nice people, talented and clever. The goverment- totally another question.
I'm 20. The music is a great joy for me, probably escapism. "The Queen story" started in 2005, though I joined Queenzone less then a year ago. Because, generally it's the only place where I can talk about my favourite band. When I say about Queen, people usually respond: "Oh, come on, he's dead!". What I reckon to be the most stupid argument ever. I think that music is beyond time. It's either good or not, and when it is, it will last. I found out about Queen through "Highlander". The first album was "Greatest Hits III". Can you imagine how I felt after, while listening to original (with Freddie) versions of The Show Must Go On, Somebody To Love and Another One Bites The Dust? What an improvisation! Now I have all studio albums and some other stuff. I also once saw Q+PR in Berlin, while missed them in Ukraine. I left the country and it appeared they are coming!  What a bad joke! But with a happy end:)
I'm very meticulous about my writing. I'm quite good with spelling, but not enough with grammar. So excuse me if I do mistakes and don't criticize too much about it.

All who participated in the thread- I like your stories a lot. Very interesting!

How wonderful to get up this morning to find more posts here! I am green with envy about your guitars and guitar dreams! I have drooled at the thought of acquiring one of Brian's Red Specials, but I'm afraid there is no justifiying it at my age. I'd have to learn to play one, and then what would I do with with it? Not likely I'd be looking to join a band, so all rather pointless, however appealing it might be. Total fantasy. Better to collect and listen to the Queen material out there for me. I just love the cool things Brian did with it like that guitar jazz band he created for Good Company. But hey, more power to those of you who can go for it!

Queen has rescued me from being an information junkie who had to have a radio or TV blabbering away in the background all the time to something far more pleasant and inspiring.

I also am in apparently the minority of those who like TCR. I think it is fun to listen to. I love the catchy song Call Me, and Cosmos Rockin', Still Burnin', Some Things That Glitter - well I like most of it. I'd like to have heard Brian singing Small. I think that some of the lyrics are quite good, in spite of the criticism I've heard, but I suppose it depends on whether or not you share Brian's POV about war and all creatures great and small, and so on, which I hear interwoven in them.(Not that this doesn't also represent Roger's and Paul's POV's, but I don't know what their's are. I suppose the fact that the lyrics include these things represents Roger's and Paul's consent as well?) And some of the lyrics are just fun.

Go Bri and Roger and whoever you might team up with!

I don't think badly of the Ukraine. You have problems there, and so do we in the USA - just not the same ones. Politics is what screws everything up, and the News agencies have their agendas as well in creating the reality that they project out there on people. As you say, it is the common people in a country who make the difference.

Queen will live on as long as there are people out here who love their music, either newer recruits or those who have been with them all along, and Freddie will always be remembered as the greatest singer and showman out there, but I do hope that Roger and Brian keep going for some years yet in whatever form.

You do very well - I had no idea that English wasn't your first language! Yes, I think it is fascinating to learn something about the members here. It still blows my mind about this age of the internet that we can be sitting in locations all over the world and be having a meeting of our minds in one place.

Could there be a Brian May Guitar in your future? That would open a whole new avenue of possibilities. Not that everyone has the calling of being a musician. I suppose one would make a great collectible at some point if you could afford it.

Thanks for joining us! I hope that you do get that opportunity to see the band live.

Thank you, Cacatua! Especially for your compliment about my English. I'm so happy to read it! It's very important for me. You are very right about internet. It's a great possibility for people. It's quite comfortable to talk with somebody in USA while staying in Ukraine:). I like that here are so many nationalities, which can freely communicate. We all are connected by one theme, and geography doesn't matter.
No politics- just Queen! I also hope that May and Taylor will think up something decent. We'll see...

I am glad you appreciate my post :)

Regarding the Guitar, there is no reason NOT to buy one if you want to play guitar, that is the whole reason they are on sale LOL. They do not sound EXACTLY like Brian's one unless you WANT them to, but they do have a tone of their own outside of other commercial guitars, as well as a superb versatility you will rarely find in others to.

Regarding Small, I appreciate what you are saying (it is mt fave on TCR along with Call me) but you seem to sound as though you think Brian wrote it? I just want to clarify it was actually Roger who wrote Small, and IMHO is just about the best song he ever wrote. I like Paul singing it more than I would Roger (in the context of the album) but Brian's vocals would have suited it too.

Cheers :)

Apparently we are back.

I know that Brian didn't write Small, though if I am to assume that their names are listed after the songs in the order of who contributed the most, then May is listed second, but I would have liked Brian singing it instead of Paul-Paul-Paul on everything. I do agree it is one of Roger's best.

Call Me isn't much on lyrics, and that isn't why I like it anyway, but the reversal of the lines, You got my name, You got my number to You got my number, You got my name really irritates me anyway. It seems that could have been handled better than just to reverse them.

We will see how the guitar interest holds up. I have a lot of other time-eating interests already, and I can listen to Queen CD's while I am doing them! I'd have to admit that I was getting a BMG as a collectible to begin with and anything further that happened would be miraculous!  ;o)

Hi all queenzoners...
My name is Emma and I'm from Sweden and 26 yrs old (yes, a baby among Queen-lovers) I work as a mechanic in a big underground iron ore mine. (The only girl among plenty of middle-age men :/)
I've been listening to Queen since the early to mid 90's, cant really remember when I started considering myself a fan cause my mother was/is a huge Queen-fan and actually travelled to Britain on two occasions in the 80's to see them, she also was at two of the concerts in Sweden. I grew up with Queen in a way :D Getting a little older i realized what the fuzz was all about and I've been hooked ever since.
I became a member  on Queenzone looking for somebody to share experiences and discuss Queen with, and dig deeper into Queen music, hoping to find people who actually was around for their glory days, something i sadly missed. I do remember alot from the late 80's but was way to young to really understand. Something I wont forget is Freddie's death, my mum was crushed to say the least!

Thankyou all for a great fansite :D

Hi Emma. :o)
I like your screen name, LosingMyBeat - one of my favorite bits of lyric. It sounds as though you must have just absorbed Queen by way of osmosis. How wonderful!

I'm so impressed that you are a mechanic. My father was a mechanic-watchmaker-machinist and I think there must be something genetic about it, or perhaps another case of osmosis, as although I do not work in that field I am mechanically inclined whenever I need to be.

Thanks for dropping by!
