my new hero has to be Rip Torn.
for a man of 78 or however old he is to get that completely drunk that he mistakes a bank as his home gets the thumbs up from me.
at least he took his shoes off before he started waving the gun around :-D

A friend-friend who I'd like to have as a romantic friend, but by no means he can know about it, cause he likes someone else already, and this someone else is my friend, and this friend, who happens to be the someone else he cares for, already suspects of my feelings as I talked to her about him in a very enthusiatic way in the past, before she came to know him, though.

But still, I want to give the present. It has to be a "the guy doesn't exist for me" gift, but at the same time it can't be toooooooo dismissive because that'd raise suspicion as well.

He likes to talk to me, though, and he said many times that I'm his coolest friend, so I don't him to think that I just don't care either.

So the gift has to express all these things.

We chicks think about stuff too much.  Sigh.  It's a good rule of thumb to figure out how much we're rolling stuff around in our heads, divide by at least 10, and then run with that.  I like your soccer ball idea because it's thoughtful and unique.  Even if he doesn't play he can kick it and bounce it and roll it around on his finger (ideally while thinking of you, natch).  I'd keep it as inexpensive as possible without being of poor quality, and perhaps even take it out of it's box and wrap it up as it is like a big obvious ball just for fun. Short note, if any, in the card. If you be casual, it's easier to feel casual, which is what is appropriate for your relationship with him right now.

Then again, what the hell do I know.  Maybe he just wants a Playstation game. :)

Hey, thanks. It makes sense. I'll settle for the soccer ball. I think I'm going to gently, of course, kick the ball towards him and say: "Take your birthday present, let's see how fast you are...", or something like this. What do you think? I won't write anything, but I found a very nice birthday card - it tells a story through a series of small vignettes. It's Snoopy's birthday - he wakes up all happy thinking about the presents... -  but no one seems to remember it: he goes past each and every character and no one pays attention to him. He starts to fake he's getting ill and all, only to find they're celebrating Woodstock's birthday! When it's already late at night, he approaches his house and everyone is there. Woodstock turns the little party hat on his head inside out and it reads: "Happy birthday, Snoopy". : -))))

Hehe. It's cute, the card. I liked it. I hope he likes it too!  o: p
