I am actually pretty impressed... The video seems to have some fairly high marks on youtube under the statistics & data section... 4th most discussed and favorite and 3rd top rated for music videos in the UK today.... Not bad at all!

Hope it´s the forerunner for an entire album. The song takes me to his first two solo albums... Don´t you?

After the six minutes, I felt empty.  I was relieved...
to know that somewhere in Britain, there was a man named Roger Taylor who had clearly gotten something off his chest (not his chesthair I presume).

But as for all the praise of this song being a display of great songwriting genius (referring to
the youtube comments mainly), well I failed to hear anything special or memorable. The overall structure was not coherent enough for my ears, and I will be the first to admit that I prefer the kind of music that passes a whistle test of some sort.

Respectig your point of view, the balance in structure is not a MUST in songwriting; in this context some experiment is welcome in my opinion.
cheers!

I love Brian, but I dont understand why he is included in this conversation...

this is a SOLO song... and a great one.

I know its a solo song. I just happened to mention my thoughts regarding if Brian had played on it as it would have been less personal.

It is a fantastic song. Takes me on a journey for the six minutes or so it lasts.

Wonderfully laid back with a few unexpected turns, great vocals by Roger and the lyrics are great. I think it is refreshing to hear a protest song that is so obvious what it is about, instead of beating around the point.

Grows with every listen too.

[i]I must be getting old
There's a fire and a fury
driven deep into my soul
It's the helplessness that comes
from being under your control
And everything is broken

Just great.

Musically speaking, it's probably the most intriguing piece of music by a Queen member since... Well, probably since Brian's "Wilderness" from '98, although "The Unblinking Eye" might actually be better. The moment when he blends the guitar, piano and violin reminds me, strangely enough, of Moby from that era. Lyrically... Well, the man does like to make his point at times. And he does not like being too metaphorical about it:) No more in this respect.

All in all, a nice effort which clears the air a bit after... Well, you know.

So, fingers crossed. Perhaps it's a start of something interesting really?

PS. I could smell some "Space Oddity" in it as well. Could you?

I don't mind the song. I'd like to hear Roger get away from some of the effects he uses on his voice though. I prefer his voice a bit more raw.

And may I from a purely aesthetic point of view - doesn't he look well??  He seems to have shed the weight that was dogging him for years.

Is this available on iTunes yet? I seriously can't be arsed to go via the Queen shop, they are hopeless, pretty well every oder has been a nightmare to-date.

I checked last night and it wasn't there yet, but I hear it's going to be, does anyone know when it's on general release?

My first experience with Queenonline yesterday was brutal.  The system was so messed I ended up purchasing 3 copies of Roger's song.  I read on their message boards that this happened to multiple people.  While there reading, I decided to sign up for the forum as well.  Apparently some adminstrator has to approve my presence, which has not been done or acknowledged in any further way despite a second inquiry hours later, so my exciting new account is in limbo or dead or sold off to some horrible KISS forum or whatever.

Then, when I try to log into the store account this morning it's like I've been wiped from the face of their servers.  I can't log in with the credentials I KNOW I used to sign up, and their recovey process is to invite you to submit your personal email address again, tell you they've sent you something with the circa 1998 caveat "if you typed your address in correctly", and then send nothing but silence to your correctly typed in address.  So, they've taken my personal contact and credit card information multiple times, taken my money 3 times, effectively locked me out of my own purchase records without so much as an email acknowledging the transaction(s), and essentially behaving as though I don't/didn't/won't ever exist.  Seriously the worst online experience I've ever had.

[/QUOTE] Yep that about sums them up I am afraid. Sadly every time they do anything it turns into a nightmare.
I will never again use them.

Hope you get it sorted shortly, I am sure they will fix it for you but it's no excuse they do this crap everytime, how hard can it be to run a transactional website these days????
