I liked Jazz.... and from the looks of this forum I may be the only one. Sure there are songs that could be better (More of That Jazz and Dead on Time for example) but over all I think it's a strong album. And also I liked the ending montage of all the songs at the end of More That Jazz! I thought it was the best part of the whole song!

Mike Hunt (great name, btw) got it right...lyricalassasin77, you must also not like tunes like Nevermore, Dear Friends and Seaside Rendezvous. Shame.

I know John and roger didn't like Jazz, but how about freddie or brian?...That album has a lot of kick ass tunes,  yea the roger songs arn't very good, but the rest is awsome.

Am I the ONLY person who likes More of That Jazz?
No!! Its my favourite song on the album!! THANK YOU FOR LIKING IT!!!!!!!!
One night Roger was in a foul mood and he threw his entire bloody drumset across the stage. The thing only just missed me - I might have been killed. - Freddie Mercury

Jazz has wierd track list and it has various music styles, because that is the definition of Jazz as a word = crazy, wierd.

They played different quality songs under  Queen rock sound.

They used psychedelic cycles in front cover, the cycles referred to wierd and to grooves of  vinyl records  (Very clever idea).

The production is good, looses very much on cd, but gains much in LPs and Greatest hits DVD (FBG and BR sound great in 5.1.). Also copare the album production with other artists -albums of the same year, Queen undo them.

More Of that Jazz closes very clever the album, the mix of Jazz songs in the middle create a meaning in the song.

So the Jazz is more thatn meets the eye. It is a Diamond!

and they liked it, as experimental album they knew that, it could have been  little better...

In the end  audience love it. Big sales, many singles and different around the world and... always asking for songs to played live. Don't mention DSMN huge success over the last decade.

fat  bottomed girls is one of the most popular songs in the states....i think the album has some of brians best work...mustapha,  entertain you, dead on time, Dreamers ball.  Good stuff,  but of course the album could have been a little better.

Sorry but dreamers ball and Jealousy are awsome tunes.
Dreamers Ball? As Freddie said... the things you do for money. Jealousy? Whats with that horrible 'twangy' acoustic guitar? Completely destroys the song, should have just been voice and piano.

And to contradict myself... 'Don't Stop Me Now' is the best song Freddie over wrote. A diamond in a mountain of coal.

I have to agree with the previous poster, who indicated that Queen and Roy Thomas Baker should have ordered the songs on Jazz better. Actually, up until now, I hadn't thought of that. There has always been something that bothers me about Jazz, and I think the ordering of the songs is it. I also agree that there are a few weak songs on Jazz - not quite the 40% killer, 60% filler, as a previous poster indicated - but a few weak songs nonetheless. IMO, the weak songs are More of that Jazz, Mustapha, and (gasp) Bicycle Race. They should have never kicked off the album with Mustapha. - How about starting with Fat Bottomed Girls or Dead on Time?  Here's my proposed song order for Jazz: Side 1: Fat Bottomed Girls, If You Can't Beat Them, Let Me Entertain You, In Only Seven Days, Leaving Home Ain't Easy; Side 2: Dead on Time, Fun It, Dreamer's Ball, Jealousy, and Don't Stop Me Now. - 10 songs, straight to the point.  What does everyone think of this?

Great tunes.  Terrible production.

Sums it up really, I hate the way the album sounds. Its very 'thin'. The mash up of songs on 'More of That Jazz' is a desperate low point and for some reason Roger thought his kit should sound like he was in a reggae band for this album. The lyrics for 'In Only Seven Days' sound like some 15 year old kid writing a poem for a girl he fancies. 40% killer..... 60% filler. Bookended by probably Queens worst 2 songs. Certainly up to that point anyway.

the piano is really neat for IN ONLY SEVEN DAYS.i agree that the lyrics need some revising

Jazz is, like several of Queen's later albums, hit-and-miss. Some great songs mixed in with some average songs, and a couple of really bad songs. The track order was disjointed as well, as others have pointed out. That said, since this seems to be the direction we're going with it, here's the track order I would have gone with for Jazz:

Side 1:
1. Let Me Entertain You
2. Fat Bottomed Girls
3. Bicycle Race
4. Dreamer's Ball
5. Jealousy
6. Don't Stop Me Now

Side 2:
1. Mustapha
2. In Only Seven Days
3. Leaving Home Ain't Easy
4. Fun It
5. If You Can't Beat Them
6. Dead On Time

Astute readers will notice that I omitted "More of That Jazz," because the song is utterly useless, and serves as little more than filler for the last four minutes of the album. If you take out the montage, fine, ok, maybe slap it in after "Fun It" for a little burst of Roger Taylor before we switch back to rock for the ending, but as it exists, it is, in my opinion, the weakest song in Queen's entire catalog.

Yes, worse than "Body Language".

Yeah, I went there.

I would have rejected both Roger songs, as well as If You Can't Beat Them. Fun It was IMO completely dumb, MOTJ was pointless and IYCBT was IMO one of John's worst songs.

Other that that, I think it's a masterpiece. Fat Bottomed Girls was IMO one of Queen's very best songs, Bicycle Race was an absolute masterpiece and more evidence of Freddie's song-writing genius, Don't Stop Me Now was quite simply one of the greatest songs of all time, In Only Seven Days was arguably both Queen's best love song as well as John's best song as writer, Dreamer's Ball was quite nice, Leaving Home Ain't Easy was really good with a nice vocal performance from Brian, Jealousy was pretty good (although not great), Mustapha is neither here nor there for me but I think it does add to the album in terms of weirdness, Let Me Entertain You could have been a great opening track and I'm not a big fan of Dead On Time, but I still would have kept it.

I think that LMEY should have opened the album and I would have had DSMN close it.

Cant believe what i'm reading about jazz. 'Dont stop me now' is now a world wide standard, ' Jealously'- aah i absolutely love this gem, Freddie at his most sensuous. 'Mustapha'- nobody mentions what must be one of Queens most unusual and original tracks, which was brought into the live setlist by public demand , (just listen to the snippet on 'Live Killers'). I saw them at Birmingham NEC in December 1980 and it was one of the highlights of the show.
