Jazz is, like several of Queen's later albums, hit-and-miss. Some great songs mixed in with some average songs, and a couple of really bad songs. The track order was disjointed as well, as others have pointed out. That said, since this seems to be the direction we're going with it, here's the track order I would have gone with for Jazz:
Side 1:
1. Let Me Entertain You
2. Fat Bottomed Girls
3. Bicycle Race
4. Dreamer's Ball
5. Jealousy
6. Don't Stop Me Now
Side 2:
1. Mustapha
2. In Only Seven Days
3. Leaving Home Ain't Easy
4. Fun It
5. If You Can't Beat Them
6. Dead On Time
Astute readers will notice that I omitted "More of That Jazz," because the song is utterly useless, and serves as little more than filler for the last four minutes of the album. If you take out the montage, fine, ok, maybe slap it in after "Fun It" for a little burst of Roger Taylor before we switch back to rock for the ending, but as it exists, it is, in my opinion, the weakest song in Queen's entire catalog.
Yes, worse than "Body Language".
Yeah, I went there.
What about :
1, Mustapha
2. Let Me Entertain You
3. If You Can't Beat Them
4. Leavin' Home Ain't Easy
5. Dreamers Ball
6. Fat Bottomed Girls
7. Bicycle Race
8. Jealousy
9. In Only Seven Days
10. Fun It
11. Dead On Time
12. Don't Stop Me Now
13. More Of That Jazz
I will say it again, Jazz opens with Mustapha and closes with more of that Jazz cause there is a reason.
Jazz means wierd, crazy e.t.c. was a music that broke the rules.
So what is more wierd to open with an arabic style song? A real shock in 1978. And closes with a song which is very hypnotic and sums up the jazz album.... check the mix in the middle and relate the words of the song with the lyrics from the mix.. you will see there is a meaning.
This album on DVD audio would sound perfect, I can imagine mustapha (Great song and great live too).

A great album Steve Vai and Def Leppard love it.
I think hawkins from the darkness said jazz was his favorite queen album.
Tell you what Mike you don't like my opinion tough shit. Don't start a thread if you don't like the replies. I think the songs are crap, its not about liking boring rock or for you feeling the need to speak for what everybody likes here so why don't you go pound sand you ignorant fuck! Ballads are one thing, slow uninspiring music is quite another. Not everybody is going to agree with what you classify as GREAT.
Take a deep breath my man.....The reason why I start a lot of threads on Jazz is because it gets mixed reviews, and different opinions. It makes for a much better discussion than the loved albums like a night at the opera, or the mostly hated like hot space. Jazz is in the middle, almost 50/50 split....It's always interesting, at least for me to go back and forth on this one. My opinion is that most the songs are very good, but it's far from a perfect album....The two roger songs are among the worst in queens history, even worse than hot space......"if you can't beat them" is another song that should have been left off the album. That leaves 10 songs I like. It's not one of you're favorites, not a big deal.
Well maybe you see where I'm coming from now because I think "If ya can't beat em" is an awesome song which you must not....that's cool with me. That's why I didn't understand the reaction when I said I didn't care for "Dreamer's Ball" or "Jealousy"....but its all good..no big deal.
Various factors : Roy being employed by the band (and not by EMI, like before) New studios (Montreux), new artistic freedom (post WWRY, WATC, BR, STL...), big money (post WWRY, WATC, BR, STL...)...
