Oh, and I really hope that she gets to play Brian's purple special, why otherwise produce a whole album for a musicalstar!?

It's amazing how some people just can't be pleased.
"Queen should get back together"
Then Queen get back together.
"I don't like the singer they picked because.."
So they go to the show to see for themselves.
"The setlists are predictable"
Even though the setlists were more varied than almost every Queen tour of the past.
"Brian isn't making much music anymore"
Then Brian makes music.
"Same old Brian"
As opposed to a new Brian who doesn't have his trademark sound..
If I may put in my two cents... the riff starting at 4:13 is just rocking. If that's one of the songs Brian wrote, then that's the best riff he's come up with in years. His playing sounds fresh and vibrant overall. Yes, Kerry has a very Broadway-sounding voice, but I always like it when people from different backgrounds join forces to create something new. Good on them.

Was thinking that too. Very tasty. Having said that. Kerry Ellis is not a rock chick and I dont see anything special in her voice that really suits that genre. Compare her with Amy Lee for example. No doubt Kerry could do more consistant perfomances, hit all the notes more often etc., but Amy's got the mojo. Horses for courses, and all that. Still better than TCR though ;)

Like the riff at 4:13, it just strikes me as MOR music. And that's the thing, for some people, that's fine and Brian's involvement lends credibility and will attract Queen fans, but (and while realizing it's not the 70s), if Brian had songs like this from the Queen album to Jazz he'd probably be asked to join Sparks. Great guitar playing on a mediocre song makes for a mediocre song with great guitar playing. Nothing interesting, could be any song from any person, could never say that about Queen music, but I agree, double edged sword. A guy writes more great songs than 99% of any one who ever lived, and we cut him no slack on new stuff. Why? Because he's written more great songs than 99% of anyone who ever lived, and this doesn't match those songs.

C'mon, does anything think Brian gave Kerry the bone, yet? Does he make her sweat?

Like I said, I hope she played a solo on Brian's purple special :D

The riff at 4:13 is not Brian's. It's a cover of a top 20 hit from 2006.

Of course, we all do. And some of us actively do that every day of our lives.
You can't possibly blame people for not knowing about everything that has ever existed, especially from the other side of the world. Most indie stations on satellite radio here focus more on Canadian and American bands, not British bands.

Really? You're not very discerning then. If I were a great artist I'd understand that some fans are uninterested in lettting me off for anything less than greatness. I deeply admire and deeply respect Brian May et al and am unwilling to politely applaud doddering around with unremarkable projects simply because they've "joined forces".

I'm not sure Brian has any "greatness" left in him. It could be the creativity flame has gone out. Some Things That Glitter on TCR was a fine record, but not a great one. The 46664 songs really had potential, with some excellent arrangements and that great OTT Queen sound (although without Fred it was a bit like a Wings song, and the lyrics were bloody awful). I've said it before but maybe we just have to face up to the probabiity that we're never going to get another White Queen or It's Late, and set our expectations accordingly.

Maybe continuing greatness is at least in part recognizing where and what the greatness was and letting loose the vaults or finding a credible way to tour it. I think it's the sense that Kerry Ellis etc. is done at the expense of the other that makes these little meanders down dull little roads feel so disappointing.

Brian is so fired up about the plight of wild creatures that I emailed him and told him that he had written great anthems like WWRY and IWIA and now he should write one for wildlife as long as he is putting himself out there in their defense anyway. Seems like a marriage made in heaven, though not much for you folks who care nothing about such things.
Apparently he didn't exactly jump for joy at the thought and email me back, so I think you all are safe from having to comment about such a thing. ;o)

To clarify, I meant I like the idea of someone doing that. Of course I didn't intend to say I automatically like the resulting music. The idea on paper and the resulting music naturally are two different things.
