Not that I'm running the show here, but can we try to limit the amount of QPR material for this project? We're trying to get long-time collectors to unearth historical documents here, not things that were recorded a few years ago, which just about anyone here could have taped. There are a hundred clips on youtube of QPR playing Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and none of Queen playing White Christmas in 1977. Or do people really want QPR stuff more than the old Queen?

You're very right! I feel the same way.
Now it's up to the people with the gems....

Now we only have to wait for comments such as "I can't share my gems, because I made a promise not to" :-)

Rick wrote: Now we only have to wait for comments such as "I can't share my gems, because I made a promise not to" :-) Well, the difference is that people on sites like dime or TTD show every day now that it IS possible to share and that in the end everyone benefits.
Is the Lampinski archive not a fantastic example? Dan recorded over a 100 shows, many of which are legendary (check out the The Who in Springfield from last week or the Queen-recording from Boston or Black Sabbath, Yes, Pink Floyd....) so I don't see any reason why people who have 1 Queen gem can not share that.
Many great tapes HAVE come out the last few years, mostly from generous people OUTSIDE the Queen fan community. WE as Queen-fans must be able to do the same.

Folks, this is called crowd-sourcing, and this is the only way forward.
Some people will have one or two gems. They will not share them. In which case, you have to respect that decision, and move on. Some people will have little bits and pieces which deserve some attention, and will send them in.
Some people will have nothing - like me, for example - but are interested to see what's out there. Some might consider that leeching. I consider it only being 13 when Queen last toured and not having very much money to traipse around the planet with a tape recorder in my pocket. But them's the breaks.
This is a big task. How do you catalogue all this? How do you ensure it is available for posterity? Whilst this thread concentrates on the rarest gems, there are many more concerts which need to cleaned up, or have one definitive source identified.
For example, could the Queenconcert chap, (an exccellent site, by the way), have a link on each concert, taking you to a rapidshare download? And what about those items which are not full concert audio? The 20 seconds of Super 8 film? The concert pictures? The "I met Freddie on holiday and went out boozing with him" snaps?
I know I have posted about this before, but the more I think about it - the fact that much of this material has no mass market value - the more I am really surprised that the alleged talents of the Archivist weren't used to better effect.
I vaguely remember some sort of call for memorabilia which was to result in....a book??! Get it online, get it available, get it preserved and get it shared. If you want to see this sort of thing in action, u2start.com is a good place to get inspiration.
I for one would certainly hit the tip jar to the tune of a few quid if someone wanted to do an equivalent project - because there's one thing I forgot to mention: it's gonna really cost to do this right.
Kudos to those who take the initiative on here for the greater good.

This is an absolutely cracking Idea John. The world of Springsteen and Zeppelin is absolutely AWASH with great quality material and rarities are springing up all over the place at reasonably regular intervals.
I'd suggest that, as with many here, the START of this project is Queen material (1973 - 1986).
If someone other than Piittrek was to volunteer to take on solo material and / or Q+PR material, that would, of course, be wonderful in itself and provide a wonderful outlet for those recordings and for anyone who wished to access them.
For my part, I'd happily volunteer to provide liner notes for each of the recordings / tracks that are made available. John / Pittrek, if this is of interest, please let me know via PM.
Best regards.

@ Bob : what changed? I decided i will be selling the master.
@Rick: I don't have the hague 74, and I don't care about it anymore. Have lost contact with the supposed owner.
I basically stopped collecting roios and voios. I only like to tape concerts I visit. Other than that, i don't care.
Life's too short. I have other priorities these days. Hopefully you all respect that.
Kind regards, D
If life is too short, then why NOT share these? I understand the hoarding of material. Yeah, it must feel great to know that you are only one of a few to own something or to have ever heard it, but in the end, does it matter? It's not like you're going to a higher plane of heaven (or hell, if that is what you aspire to) for owning it. It's kind of like those old rich guys that have enormous amounts of wealth and never did anything with it when they died. Never spent it, never enjoyed it, nothing. Talk about an empty feeling.
What do you gain in the end because of it? I'm not trying to bash anyone up here who hoards and doesn't want to share; don't get me wrong. I think it's great that you may own some 'gems', but again, in the end, if you're the only one listening to it, what do you gain from that?
Please do not let my post discourage those from sharing. I am only hoping that this will maybe encourage people who are on the fence about sharing, to actually do it. These are just my thoughts on things. I think it's great that BBC was shared and I hope that more will be shared.
When you come up here and read all the negative comments (I have been guilty in the past) back and forth (GB), it's great to see some positive up here. It's apparent that Queen has no real interest to release the stuff they have. They've made that painfully apparent in recent years. it's up to us, as Queen fans, to keep things fresh and keep the music alive. I applaud all that you guys are doing.

It's also important to state here, I think that, it goes without saying, whetever rarities sets eventually appear in the shops, we will all be more than happy to pop to the shops and part with our haerd-earned in support of the band.
.......and please let's try to keep this thread to SPECIFICS on the project / idea as opposed to a bitch-a-thon about trading and hoarding etc etc ad infinitum.
This is such a great and promising idea that it HAS to be taken seriously.

Have you leafed through Queenlive.ca? I think I've at least put a pretty good dent in it.
Which existing shows do you feel still need work on them?

Hi !
I would be happy to know what you think could be improved in the Queenconcerts's index. It's slightly off-topic maybe, so maybe could you share your opinions with me via PM ? thanks !

Olivier, Belgium.

Request for the May 11,12,13 recording masters by Queen during the European News Of The World Show in 1978.

Awesome idea!
I would just like to not that whatever I had (namely the Vienna 2008) was shared at first convenience. So, I guess the ball is in the court of the "ubers".

Sir GH, I was speaking speculatively, and without much knowledge on the subject. There are bound to be a few out there, which are in need of a clean up, but I wouldn't have a clue which. It was merely speculative conjecture on my part - please take no offence!

None taken, of course. But feel free to make suggestions... many of us enjoy taking a bit of time to clean up a recording whenever the need is there.
