Sure, most of us eat meat, but we expect animals to the very least have a quick death with the least amount of prolonged suffering possible. I like the way 'Avatar' puts the issue of hunting for food as part of a cycle in which we hold respect for the creatures we will be consuming. Killing animals for a sport, leisure or entertainment is just sickening. ================================
Reality check: the meat we eat largely comes from animals who are accorded nothing resembling respect no matter what Avatar says. Cramped, shitty and often brutal conditions followed by an early, ignoble death. I wish it was different. I'd definitely pay for that.
For me there's always been a large gap between me having no interest in hunting, bullfighting etc. and thinking that other people who do are somehow sickening. The biggest difference between raising a cow for meat and raising a cow for a bullfight (right before he becomes meat) is the vastly superior quality of life for the bull. Still, the decision is important as a symbol of changing mores and perhaps foreshadows changes in the farming industry where the greatest suffering almost certainly occurs. In bullfighting, it's unlikely that the pleasure is in watching the animal suffer and fade, but in the dance of the matador and, yes, in tradition. It's become an anachronism in Catalonia with other regions likely to follow in years to come, but I hardly think we're just waiting for all the sickening people to die.

I'm sorry, are you talking about yourself? Because that describes you perfectly. Let's examine it. You are a foul child like Gibson, who like him is anti-Semitic, and who thinks that domestic violence can be justified. You don't know the difference between right or wrong, as your behaviour here indicates. Going back to the original question, I've been doing a lot of research about bullfighting as part of my Spanish course. Firstly, bullfighting in Cataluna has not been banned because of animal right campainers. It's been dropped purely because the ticket sales have fallen so much, it's not viable anymore. Secondly, there is so much to what happens between the torero, the bull and the audience, that we in england do not understand and don't start to understand until you learn about it.
Yes, the bull suffers cruelty for 20 minutes in the ring. Unfortunately, general farming methods of poultry and pigs in our farming methods, our treatment of pets and animals in labs mean that they suffer a whole lifetime of cruelty.
If you've ever put rat poison down for rats, it takes the rat 2-3 days to die in agony.
So now who are the cruel ones ?
I'm neither for nor against bullfighting, but I cn provide a more balanced view.

I think there's a huge difference in killing animals for sheer entertainment (It sickens me to use that word in this context!!) and killing animals to gain information on diseases or vaccinations.
