Party...Queen's worst song

I'm assuming this a personal taste list. Otherwise, what are the criteria for it? Musicianship? Lyrics? Style?

If it's a "Songs I don't like" list, shouldn't it be called that?

The only song I don't like would be "Delilah." That's not to say it's a bad song, it's just not a song I like. I know other people who do like it, so, to each his own.

Also, for the record, I have a print of the Richard Dadd painting "The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke" matted and framed on my wall, bought when the painting was on tour as part of a fairy artwork exhibit at the Art Gallery Of Ontario 12 years ago. That's how freakin' much I love that song!

I love Tear It Up.  It may be a little generic, but it's a great road trip song to sing a long to in the car. Get Down, Make Love and Don't Try Suicide? I'd place those in my top fifteen favorite Queen songs. Then again, I tend to adore all the songs most die hard Queen fans seem to hate the most. All three are quite sexy. Gotta love Freddie singing "dick" and "tits" though.

My least favorite are, in no particular order:
1) Sheer Heart Attack
2) Good Company
3) Fun It
4) The Miracle (song and lyrics are pure cheese)
5) Friends Will Be Friends (lyrics are pure cheese)

I think Fairy Feller is a wonderful composition... might be a little on the fruity side - but does it's job. Freddie wrote it based on nothing more than a still painting. The different chord changes, timing changes, falsetto choruses - it's a very ambitious track. I would say it's one of Queen's stronger tracks but also among their least commercial.

Funny How Love Is... now that's another story.... trash - but I think it was an attempt at Spector's wall of sound approach - I also think they were attempting a single when they included it on the album but quickly realized that it alienated them from their-then target-market which can be deduced from the songs they regularly played live during those days - Father To Son, Ogre Battle, White Queen, Son And Daughter....

Although Party may not be a great song - it is definitely not their worst... my top 10 worst Queen countdown:

10. More Of That Jazz***
9. She Does Me (Stormtrooper In Stilletos)
8. Funny How Love Is
7. Don't Lose Your Head
6. Fun It
5. Machines (or 'Back To Humans')
4. Pain Is So Close To Pleasure
3. My Baby Does Me
2. Gimme The Prize (Kurgan's Theme)
1. Cool Cat ----> why oh why was this ever included on Hot Space - even Soul Brother was better than this!

*** If they never included snippets of the rest of the album to begin with, I would have replaced this entry with Misfire.

Others worthy of mentioning: The Loser In The End, Misfire, Coming Soon, Man On The Prowl, Rain Must Fall
Even bad for a B-Side: A Human Body, Hijack My Heart

Many include Delilah on their lists... I think it's a great composition, the lyrics may be a little juvenile and the song topic a little embarrassing - but it's honest, catchy, and has a fairly good solo after the bridge... it's not one I ever skip and I always enjoy listening to it with my car windows *up*!

Oh my Oh my... when are you all going to understand... its imposible to "decide" wich song is the worst... Queen music got to so many people, with diferent tastes, that made choosing a bad song, a imposible task. for instance, I consider The Fairy Fellers, among my top 10 Greatest Songs from Queen...

There are people that say that even "One Year of Love" is crap... but for me, is the most worderfull piece of love music ever written...

Seriously you guys, Stop Breaking My Balls With these topics... and make topics about planing a way of breaking on The storm trooper exibit, Comando Style, and steal those great footages! :D

Fairy Feller is art, whether you like it or not.

Party is Freddie on too much meds or something.  They absolutely do not belong on the same list, unless the list is "Songs That Freddie Mercury Performed On".  Even then, I'd be disposed towards leaving it off there on the grounds that I forgot it existed after an intense bout of wishful thinking.

Why everybody hates Gimme the Prize? One of my favourite Queen song in these days, it is one of their best hard rock tunes along with The Hitman. You gotta love those Freddie's vocal work!

I have never understood why Party is so unpopular. Very unusual, but not so bad.

Michael wrote: Party - Queen's worst song?  I don't think so, but it is certainly not one of their better ones.  Personally, I think their top five worst songs (in no particular order) are: Delilah, Get Down Make Love, side 1 of Hot Space, Loser in the End, Don't Lose Your Head, and Invisible Man.  There are probably several more I'm forgetting.
1st side of Hot Space? That just shows you that you don't appreciate Queen's diversity. Hot Space is a brilliant record which doesn't have one bad song. Just because they are different than Queen's usual sound, none of the songs are their worst stuff. And you think Delilah is worse than Party? At least Delilah has a song to it and doesn't just sound like the band was drunk jamming in their garage at 4 oclock in the morning and happened to record the result.
