I'll concede it's speculation. But it does sound like the same mics and recording gear. I'd say the only thing that's much different is his location.
Here's one of the Japanese bootleg shops: http://kentjapan.com/special.php?No=12&o=aa&st=275
Problem is, most of these places only ship to Japan.
That said, you're best to download the remasters by our beloved Stark, as he EQ'd them to lessen the effects of the compression that have crushed the sound into a giant box-like waveform.

This bootleg is a fantastic listen.
It's interesting to hear the live mix, and the front of house guy playing with the faders to get everything right.
Deacon hits a ton of bum notes in Tear It Up.

I noticed it on the official release as well! It sounds like his E-string went out of tune!

The additional problem is my inability to read Japanese. Having said that, my boss's wife is Japanese and her parents live on Tokyo, so if I was sufficiently keen something could be sorted out. But I don't think I'm that keen.
I hadn't checked the waveforms, that's a shame. I know all about loudness wars but it's always seemed so pointless to me. If you're trying to listen in such adverse conditions that this has to be done to the music so you can hear it then don't damn well listen! Wait until you get home. This probably explains why the only portable music player I own is a cassette walkman, I gave up very early.
