First off: I really do like The Beatles. Not everything, and I have to admit I lean towards George Harrison, but I do like it. Having said that, anyone who thinks Paul is in any way an exceptional vocalist doesn't know what they are talking about, as the 'arguments' on the website in the original post clearly show.
Although I know you are fond of a scientific approach to music, most people simply are not. Most music listeners care about mere, unscientific, subjective opinions. Yes, we care about the good feeling we get from what we hear, not about the technical finess of an artist, or their range or how they could hit a note while high on drugs and getting nailed in the buttocks.
If being a Beatle itself is not exceptional enough for some people, then what is? You come across as a mean spirited person if you wish to label the opinions of others as "don't know what they are talking about". Who put you in a position to decide on the matter? I suppose you'll find out when you look in the mirror.
In my subjective opinion most polls about greatest singers ignore black singers, who could sing circles around overrated self-destructive douches like Freddy Mercury. Oh, and anyone who claims otherwise, simply doesn't know what they are talking about. Thou shalt not question my authority on matters of opinions, you you you positivist pillock, or I will call thee a wanker and then spend three weeks on thinking of witty insults, having overused my limited vocabulary of slurs (pillock, cunt, wanker). Thank you.

Ok, your rant was funny, I'll grant you that, but...please read what I write before lecturing me: when I say that they do not know what they are talking about, I am referring specifically to the *arguments* (and note that I place them between single quotation marks in my post) they use in support of their opinion, as they pass ridiculously vague, indeterminate subjective observation as scientific evidence of the objective superiority of Paul McCartney to *every other vocalist in the world*. That, PMA, is what I refer to as "not knowing what they are talking about".

Wow! What a couple of crazy threads. Personal taste is a subjective thing. That Darth Vader guy was so absolute in his opinions. And I guess we all know on here that he really didn't the Queen catalogue at all as he didn't recognise that list of songs that were put to him. Although I guess he was on a Mac site as he kept saying.
I love The Beatles, they're a wonderful band. I just happen to enjoy Queen. Doesn't make it right, but it makes me happy. And I enjoy listening to both groups.

Think I better clarify that. I enjoy Queen "more". But I enjoy The Beatles too. And I have one McCartney solo album called "Press to Play", so I'm not expert on his stuff. Its pretty good if not earth shattering. Have never heard Jet so can't comment.

Press To Play? Really?
Christ's sake, do yourself a favour - throw that in the bin and go crank "Maybe I'm Amazed".

McCartney is reissuing his solo stuff this year, his debut album, Band On The Run and McCartney II have been released with RAM to follow..
I loved the debut and it's extra live tracks, they have a back to basics organic feel about them.
However, I bought Band ON The Run, after hearing how brilliant it was supposed to be, and, well really, apart from the title track I was utterly, utterly underwhelmed. Not happy!!
Macca has never put out a complete masterpiece, but I'd recommend McCartney and Flowers In The Dirt. There's just so much rubbish littered amongst his solo work.

Hi Zebonka
Thanks for the heads up. Press to Play wasn't what I was expecting at all, that's for sure. Its a bit all over the place really. but it has grown on me once I got over the shock.
Hi ActionFletch
Thank you too mate. The song "Band on the Run" has never done anything for me either. Wasn't crazy about Silly Love Songs too, but I thought Mull of Kintyre and No More Lonely Nights deserved everything they got. So my impression is that his solo stuff is a bit hit or miss, unlike the Beatles stuff I've heard, which I love.

That's hilarious. I don't know anyone outside that forum who thinks McCartney is one of the world's greatest singers.
Yeah, good on you, genius! I'd disagree with you, but I can't imagine anyone else singing Maybe I'm Amazed or Live And Let Die right? By proxy those performances put him in world's greatest singer territory. It ain't all about hitting 5ths above 3rds below or technique. You know what? I've built an identical copy of Brian's Red Special. The general consensus on the nerd boards is that if you don't play it exactly like Brian you're a hack...surely variety is the spice of life eh?

When did I say anything "about hitting 5ths above 3rds"? Did I suggest he was an awful singer or that he doesn't have any musical ability? Did I suggest there's only one type of singer? Any discussion about whether or not he's one of the world's greatest singers would have to first define parameters. But frankly, those are pointless discussions I'm uninterested in taking part in. My point is that on a McCartney forum OF COURSE they're going to say he's the greatest! What's the point in even arguing with them! If someone started a thread here Fred would naturally come out on top. But its all pointless.
Now, about McCartney. He's an egotistical twat whose solo career is marked by mediocrity and cheese. However, as a member of The Beatles, he was part of something rather more impressive. Is he a great singer? I really don't care. I like the sound of his voice when he performs ballads but it's a bit grating sometimes when he does harder stuff. You can make oif that what you will. I really don't give a hoot.

Womble, try to stay calm, a lot of Macca fans like Queen, don't blame all this on the good members of this board, we all know who is to blame here, the ultimate in dick heads "FLASH JAZZ" If I was a betting man I would say he's as bent as Quentin Crisp" I wonder if its true he used bananas for satifaction when the batteries of his dildo run out!!

Very good point. Sorry other Freddie Mercury fans. It's not your fault you have a bit off a massive cunt in your ranks!
Hmm I'm wondering if Jazz Flash/Jizz Splash is a repressed homosexual....

flash jazz...you are a very stupid person...there really was no need to come over to PM.COM and wind people up....freddie mercury dosent belong on the same planet as mccartney for many many reasons, including his completely overated voice...most of you 'queen' fans really need to get out more..frankly i would be ashamed to be linked to a band that played for segregated crowds in south africa despite pleas for them not to ...they then had the cheek to make their whole trashy career out of their so called great performance....thank god the whole band are a bunch of nobodys these days scraping a living out of the memory of a ghost of a man with dodgy tash , buck teeth and a killer addiction to risky sex
