American Idol 2012 Top 6 Recap: Who Rocked You on Queen Night?

This week on the American Idol 2012 top 6 performance show, each of the remaining contestants performed a song tribute to the legendary rock band Queen as well as a second song of their choice. Late, great Queen frontman Freddie Mercury is a notoriously hard act to follow and we couldn’t wait to see how the contestants approached their song tributes to the band on Wednesday night’s show.

First on tap for the night is a video montage paying tribute to late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Original Queen band members Roger Taylor and Brian May hook up with the American Idol 2012 top 6 to give them advice and help with their songs chosen for the evening.
The remaining American Idol 2012 top 6 contestants take the stage with Roger Taylor and Brian May to perform a medley of Queen rock anthems, including “Another One Bites The Dust,” “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions.”

Actually wasn't a bad performance from the singers...Loved the opening segment with Brian and Roger....

Fat Bottomed Girls, Another One Bites the Dust, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions were done in the medley

Brians advice was cool, "..the people in the audience all want to see you do well, give it your all..." extremely paraphrased, but that's how I heard it.

Jessica: Borap. I just wasn't into it. 16 and maybe doesn't know enough about Queen. Steven Tyler nailed it when he said rock is not her thing.
She can't rock a stage at all. A big handicap if you're attempting Queen.

Skylar: tsmgo. Had intensity, but that country twang was bleeding through and so for me a nightmare. Her next song choice was about pickups and mustangs - obviously her true sensibilities.

Joshua: CLTCL. Another nightmare. Because he has no "heat" in his performance. It was like a Disney version of it. He could of used a motorcycle or leather jacket.

Elise: IWIA. Good job. At 28 she gets it. She's a natural rocker. A few shows back she sang Led Zep and it was awesome.

Philip: attempted FBG. Ok. But needs to work on crowd control. How to interact with the audience. In that department, no Freddie skills. Sad.

Hollie : SM. Due to her background, i'd like to think she was raised with Queen, but in her comments it seemed she'd only been recently introduced to the song. A brave choice for a young person and she reminded me of a young Kerry Ellis in her attempt.

Best thing of the night: Brian's guitar solo - WWRY.

Interesting that the person I would of liked to see, Colton, was sent home last week. Wonder what he would of chosen, given the chance.

Quite interesting that in the video montage backing the medley they included some of the drag scenes from the I Want To Break Free video - hopefully this means that mainstream US can take a joke now?!?

It was Queen Karaoke night on American Idol... They sounded no better than any other person trying to attempt a Queen song at a bar,IMO.

Is it just me or did Phillip and Josh sing one note during FBG and CLTCL? Couldn't they even try to sing the melody lines? Jeez, I would have been really embarrassed with those half-assed attempts.

Out of all six contestants, Hollie is the best singer. Her version of Save Me was really good.

These young singers (if you can really call them singers, they're more like screamers and warblers,imo.) are used to singing all over the place, they don't know how to sing a real song with a melody.

In a related matter, the official Queen Extravaganza says that the band will be playing "In The Lap of the Gods" live on the tour - my guess is that they've gone the usual route of getting amateurs to write their press release, coupled with poor proof reading, and there should be a '...Revisited' on the end of that. Still, we'll see!

At least tour with some ROCK vocalists...they became their own tribute band... And that AI thing was pretty bunk. :(

Effort by effort, I'm leaning more and more towards the detractors' side.

Apparently they'd already cut these songs as promos at least a few weeks before

I thought the opening medley was beyond pitchy and HEARTBREAKING.
Lol okay I'm stretching it...but it was pretty bad.

Sounded really unprofessional.

The talent pool for rock on these six is pretty lame. I haven't seen the others, dreading that too

I was hoping that Jessica chick would sing something graceful and sentimental like Love of my life...
Or TRY TO belt out "Spread Your Wings"
But with all the songs being preceeded by "the Queen hit from 1980"etc...unlikely a great catalogue song would make it

She clearly has the best voice here.
Save Me sounded like a 1980's Donna Fargo song or somethin...
