Adam Lambert and Sacha Baron Cohen
the only two things i am totally opposed to Queen re their decisions.
But i will take Adam w Queen over Sacha in that movie any day

Freddie is Gone... The Glory years will never return.
but lets honour Freddie's life story by casting Jeremey Kapone
in the role

Ground rules for these gigs:
1) don't talk between songs
2) don't oversing
3) play down the american accent while singing
4) don't have your hair standing up
5) don't wear a leather trenchcoat
6) do press ups during Hammer To Fall
7/ Leave the butchered goat vibrato in the dressing room
8/ Try and remember Brian May's name
9/ Don't fluff the lyrics and/or over-rely on monitors
10/ Get a sore throat, prompting Queen to give Marc Martel a call
11. Piss Brian and Roger off with your arrogance that you are the next freddie prompting Queen to give Marc Martel a call and doing a few US gigs!!

I cant seem to stay off this forum no matter how hard I try. I just watched two short clips of Martel and Rodgers with Queen. I can see how diehards would be upset with AL as a choice. Both Martel and Rodgers seek to "mimic"
Freddie and do an excellent job. AL sounds NOTHING like Freddie and doesn't try to. He will put his own interpretation onto Freddie's music and this is not what you want to hear. You want to close your eyes and pretend Freddie is back. I don't blame you. Therefore, no matter what AL does, he will please you. :(

You think Paul Rodgers set out to intentionally mimic Freddie? Which performances were you watching/listening to, cos I'm struggling to see that at all - if anything he went totally the other way and made some of the melodies virtually unrecognisable!

So stop trying. :). No need to explain dropping back by either. Most people understand being fed to the teeth with a discussion forum and then the bit of distance and time fueling a willingness to come bak and argue some more. Ha ha.

That said, the notion of Paul Rodgers 'mimicking' Fred is really, really off. He was nobody but his own legendary self, whether one liked him and the results or not. This is exactly the kind of thing that boosts the impression that the super passionate Lambert fans are musical dilettantes who get their musical fix and cues from TV talent shows and have neither the knowledge, context or judgement to know their musical ass from Adam.

Oh, and former post should read "will NOT please you.". I know how Queen fans hate typos.

Yes. Because it was such an iconic song for Freddie and for fans the vocal for the first 3:30 was a recording of Fred synced to his image performing on the big screen. Paul comes in and sings the last part of the song, and just before the five minute mark it becomes a play between Paul's live voice and Fred's recorded one. The contrast couldn't be clearer and the chances of anybody with even a superficial knowledge of classic rock mistaking Freddie Mercury for Paul Rodgers are pretty much zero. No biggie, but perhaps a point can be made that people here really are for the most part coming from a very different musical place than a typical Adam Lambert fan. The judgment of those who think Lambert is an ill fit and a mistake does come from a place of experience and knowledge. Doesn't make us right, but it does mean that it's a real thing that has nothing to do with homophobia or chronic complaining, being impossible to please, being enamoured with a ghost or whatever.

You can't keep a good moron down.

Freddie rarely, if ever, oversung. He sang with passion, however there is a massive difference between what Freddie did and oversinging.

Really enjoying the gig, but still stand by my ground rules!
