AL = Awful

Q = Great.

I didn't think AL was awful, just not a fit. Remaining Queen is great, for sure. AL is an entertainer.

The abbreviated Seven Seas and Keep Yourself Alive at the beginning scared me badly. Extremely weak and a bad fit for Lambert's skills. He righted himself reasonably following those two with WWRY fast. For me he's better at the tightly paced talk-singing songs - WWRY Fast, FBG, Dragon Attack etc. because there is little room for his bad instincts and overdecorated notes and excessive vibrato. On the positive side I think he was effective enough in several spots, and he looked and (mostly) acted the part. Still, he was plagued by the usual things people that aren't fan aren't fans of. SSOR, KYA, STL and GaGa were particularly sick making. Somebody said that was the best STL they'd ever heard? Maybe if the only other one you'd ever heard was at all you can drink karaoke night. Otherwise, wow. Crazy how two people can hear such different things. His banter was WEAK. Asking repeatedly for the fat assed women in the audience to acknowledge themselves? Really? No, but really? Shouldn't have messed with BoRhap to the degree that he did either. It's not the song for that, and what he did with it was unappealing anyway.

Loved the times when it was just Brian and Roger. I once said with 100% honesty that I wouldn't go see Queen + Adam Lambert if they were playing my local arena, because AL really and truly grates on me that much. But I'd take that back now. I'd take that back because I realize now that the greatness of the music, the catalogue, the joy of seeing Brian and Roger playing, still, cannot be completely held back by anybody on the mic. I appreciated the nod to the fans and the history when Brian took LOML. It would have been a natural to give to Adam on the surface, but they didn't. Thanks for that.

The decent parts combined with the atmosphere and immediacy of a live show should leave people who attend in person satisfied. It wasn't a train wreck or anything, which it completely could have been. I'm glad I watched it, hated some aspects slightly less than I thought I would, and really hope the best for the remaining shows. On a final positive note I can appreciate Adam doing this in the middle of promotion for his own album. While it might boost his own work, he also must have taken significant time out of his schedule to rehearse, memorize etc. at a critical time for his album. Which is plummeting down the charts. Just sayin'. Ha ha.

Love your take on it all and agree, thanks for that. Ah, well, I'd go see them for the parts I loved. I got teary eyed with Bryans LOML. If only I could see MM and JSS sing with Queen, that would be perfect.

That sums up my thoughts too. I liked it more than I thought I would. The excellentness of seeing Roger and Brian outweighed the gaffes and the parts where AL was annoying. I also thought Adam generally did better on the faster songs than the more melodic ones, though I did like his Who Wants To Live Forever a lot.

Freddie never said anything ridiculous on stage did he? It was great fun and far far better than I feared. Bad points: the keyboard scale on '39 (get AL to sing it!) the robot voice on AKOM, the overlong Dragon Attack. After lots of thought, I'd say a high 7 out of 10 when I was truely expecting a 3.

Bang on the money. In spite of Lambert screwing up the majority of the songs, I was able to enjoy a lot of the show just seeing those guys playing again.

What pisses me off the most is that Lambert isn't fucking up out of total ineptitude. A lot of that stuff he got wrong was just him getting in over his head. Those ridiculous, aimless wannabe-Mariah exercises ... going completely-the-fuck out of key.

He didn't need to be doing that, and if he'd just stop doing those things and concentrate on the *music* then the show would improve heaps. Like, many heaps.

To me Adam's voice is too shrill and thin.  He may have the range for the songs but his voice is really not suited for Queen songs.

That's right. Adam can pull all the fourth octave notes and some fifth octave notes that Freddie couldn't ever reproduce live, but Adam's vocal sound doesn't fit at all to Queen songs. For example Adam's renditions of Seven Seas of Rhye and Keep Yourself Alive are horrible.

The worst to me was Somebody to Love. He totally fucked up the song.

Zebonka, I am waiting for your harsh rebuke since I have to weigh in here even though I vowed never to return. Moth to a flame kind of thing . As you well know, I am a Glambert thru and thru (which means I worship the ground Adam walks on). I did NOT like Adam in the EMA gig though didn't think he was as bad as you all did. I see your point now. I don't like Adam singing Queen songs. However, I thought he sounded lovely on WWTLF and he nailed UP. He was off-key more than I've ever heard and did not like his out-of-character stage hokiness. (I did like the tight leather pants A LOT). But what I do know is Queen invited Adam to do the gigs, Adam would have been a fool not to accept, and he had a blast up there! Good for him! And you have to admit my Adam has BALLS! Three weeks of rehearsal, performing in front of hundreds of thousands (?) when he knows he is NOT FM?? He deserves more credit than you are giving him. I can't WAIT till he gets back to his own music (i know you cant either) and I will be right there in the front row because Adam is nothing short of amazing when doing his own live concerts.
P.S. Brian and Roger we're really good.
And maybe I will be baaaack.

You are quite a wise dude.

"Zebonka, I am waiting for your harsh rebuke"

I have never been harsh with you.

"As you well know, I am a Glambert thru and thru"

Aside from the fact that it sounds retarded, that's your business. Why would I have a problem with you liking Adam Lambert?

"However, I thought he sounded lovely on WWTLF and he nailed UP"

There were points of both songs that I liked, actually. That was definitely a better part of the set.

Aside from that, I don't really disagree with most of what you were saying. He definitely screwed the pooch on more than a few occasions. These things happen.

Your definition and mine of harsh differ. And what the hell does "screw the pooch" mean?

"Your definition and mine of harsh differ"

Obviously.
