Freddie Mercury -- Syrian?

I've just come back from Syria. I know Freddie's family comes from India, but I have come to the conclusion that Freddie looks distinctly Syrian. Especially in his younger years (60's - 70's).
Anyone else agree?

As far as I remember Freddie's origins are Persian (Iranian) and he was born in Zanzibar (Tanzania). Iran is close to Syria, so perhaps they could have genetic links.

Freddie's family went to India because of an assignment of the UK Government (to his father, I believe). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers,

Ogre-

PS: Oh, and he looks Indian to me. :)

That explains it. In regards to Freddie's looks, the Syrian people (males and astonishingly even some females) seem to have the same smooth, light olive complexion, many of the same facial features. For the males similar body types etc...some of the same mannerisms, charismatic qualities and even voice quality. It was surreal. Probably every third or fourth young male I saw on the streets had distinct "Freddie" physical characteristics. I can't count the number of young males I saw that, I could have sworn I had just seen the ghost of Freddie straight from the year 1978. Pretty cool actually.

No. Both of his parents were born pre-Independence in Colonial India, their nationality was British-Indian. Though, they were not really indians, but Parsees from persian descent, from a centenarian parsee community settled down in Bombay. Bomi was from a town called Bulsar, that's how they got the family name. Bomi went to Zanzibar before he married Jer, looking for a job. It was only when he got a job in the High Court that he got back to Bombay to marry Jer and to take her with him to Zanzibar for good.

Freddie does not look Indian to me. His roots are persian, and I think he looked that way in his youth, but became more and more western looking through the years.

I'm actually noticing a bit of Eskimo, now that I look at him a bit more closely. Anyone got any info to support that?
