Since this thread has gone to the dogs, I may as well take it further by saying (quite reasonably), that I hope they re-release Wembley 86 on BLURAY.
Not only do I hope they will keep it in PAL instead of fucking up the picture and colours by making it NTSC like the DVD, but they could also take full advantage of the additional space and present FULL versions of the 'band-cams' that are on the original DVD release.
I'd LOVE to watch the behind angle of Roger drumming for the whole concert....
Actually, as far as Rainbow is concerned, I'm disappointed (yet not surprised) at the fact they're doing an edit of both nights.
I'd much rather they released a 2 disc set with both nights in full like they did Wembley.
I fully understand that there was a technical issue on one of the nights that QPL won't want the public to see, but since the band started "Liar" from the beginning once those issues had been resolved, I see no reason why a seamless edit can't be made once they've excised that material.

^ This.
It would be a crying shame if Rainbow was released in NTSC format, it would ruin one of the best looking examples of 2" videotape I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I seem to recall there being a slight picture fault with the footage from the first night (all the "blacks" of the image appeared dark red). I don't know whether that has any part in the decision to compile both nights. You can see in the Rainbow footage of Stone Cold Crazy as one of the DOOL documentary bonus features that the footage from the first night is used very sparingly (distinguishable by the large "QUEEN" sign at the back of the stage and the picture quality jump).

Yes, which is exactly why the Roger albums are getting an earlier release... And once his greatest hits bombs, QP have a new excuse not to release the Rainbow Show.

I can't imagine anybody is expecting a box set or compilation of stuff off albums that were not big hits in the first place to be a hit now.

Of course I'd like to see both uncut nights too. But if Mercury's voice wasn't in great shape on the first night, I'd be happy with a nice 2-show edit to create a single good show.
They can't have the public thinking Queen sucked live. A DVD could easily make or break that reputation. Disc 2 of the Led Zeppelin DVD is largely revisionist history. Most of the Earls Court and Knebworth material is about as useful as a nun's tits, but Zeppelin sound amazing after Page had his way with the footage - and even the most hardcore fans are still in awe nearly 10 years after the release.
The work on Queen's Rainbow footage won't be nearly as substantial. As seen on the DOOL documentary, Liar on the second night was interrupted twice. There's no way that could be a definitive version of Liar on a DVD. That's the kind of thing that would be a cool extra on disc 2. The version from the first night is rock solid, so they'll just use that.

Well it's pretty complicated, I can see why you didn't understand. What he was saying was that the editing work they do on Queen's Rainbow footage won't be nearly as substantial as the work they did to make the aforementioned Led Zeppelin concerts presentable. But since it was structured in such a logical way that any normal person could understand it, I can see why it was hard for you to follow.

...meaning there won't be as much editing to do. They only have two nights to work from to create a 20 song final product, whereas Page had at least three nights at Earls Court 75 to create 6 songs.

His solo stuff will be released as a compilation and probable box set at some time this year.
I don't think The Cross stuff will be included at this point, maybe on another collection.
A new studio album will also follow.
Regards.
I can understand a compilation/best of as a mainstream release for Joe Public, the box set being for the fans but what I DON'T understand is why in the world The Cross material would be excluded as it's clearly part of Roger's solo career. Waiting for some other collection to put it out on makes little sense from a sales point of view as the Cross stuff didn't do that well on it's own so it would need to be bunched in with Roger's other, more well known, material.
Putting together a compilation from four solo albums would have a lot of filler, having seven to pick from (this would include three albums from The Cross) would up the quality of songs selected for it. Not to mention a videos collection for DVD, this would be the ideal time for remastering Cross material and finally giving the bulk of Roger's solo career a much needed spit shine and wider audience.

I think the exclusion of The Cross material has always been because of issues regarding copyright etc as it is on different record labels
Negative Creep · Member since
First of all, there would be no problem licensing the tracks (the only possible issue would be financial, and the idea that a multi millionaire and Universal couldn't afford to license material that never sold in any quantity and would therefore be relatively cheap is laughable - small record companies license tracks all the time) - however, I'm pretty sure Roger owns the rights to most/all of his own recordings? Perhaps he just doesn't want to have to pay out any royalties to the other Cross co-writers? Excluding Cross material from a RT "solo" release is typical QPL bollocks.
