and i don't hate funkywhatever...but i will stand by what i said - it wasn't a simple question. it's an intrusive request. and the polite, reasoned, correct thing to do when it's pointed out is to say "apols, i see now - it was wrong to ask"

Right. Because the world is bound to the Brenski view of propriety and should apologize the moment you arrive to provide the 411. It was a simple question. A simple question about updated photos of two people that had previously been professionally photographed and splashed all over the public arena by their mother Mary Austin. It's not something that interested me, but it was something that interested somebody else. You want to pull this constantly but won't abide the complaints of other posters who get weary of you costing this forum contributors in the name of enforcing your arbitrary personal moral codes like they're international fucking law.

that's the most bonkers reply possible. be honest for a change - instead of revisiting your one-person crusade against anything i say - if some stranger wanted photos of your kids you'd be the first to object. but don;t let the requests of the moral bankrupts get in the way of you doing the most important thing in the existence of humankind...ie stalking the sh*t out of me in some holier-than-fucking-thou mono-focused charge of the fucking shite brigade

ps - fyi - the right to privacy for every individual IS FUCKING INTERNATIONAL LAW - or haven't you heard of the HUMAN RIGHTS ACT 1998...now get off my back. idiot

I must have forgotten the part where disagreeing with someone is considered "stalking the shit" out of that person.

It was not wrong for funkyrake to have asked anything. He was curious, nothing more, and he didn't deserve the backlash he received. I wouldn't expect him to apologize for asking a question. Yet, horse feathers kept hounding him until he just snapped and deleted his account because he couldn't take the abuse anymore. If I forced someone to go to that point, even if I hadn't met the person before I would feel like a pretty shitty human being, but it seems to me that horse feathers doesn't know such remorse.

Also, I don't have kids obviously so maybe I shouldn't be addressing this issue, but if someone asked for pictures of my kids I wouldn't be as freaked out as you seem to be suggesting. I might think it was a little weird, and I probably wouldn't fulfill the request, but I certainly wouldn't hound the person with post after post of hate-filled nonsense.

...Aaaaaaannd the hate continues. We were doing well for a little bit there.

Hey brENsKi, how exactly am I discrediting your experience? I'm not; I'm saying that if Greg wants to provide commentaries on Queen's shows he can. I'm not his PR agent, I just think he's a good guy so I'm trying to defend him.

horse feathers, what does liking songs from the 80s have anything to do with anything?

And finally, are we ever going to stop hating funkyrake for asking a simple question?
You're doing a good job communicating important points on this thread waunakonor. You deserve more backup and I'd normally make sure you had it but I seem to be pinging from one QZ fight to another in recent weeks and I'm a bit worn out. :)
Thanks, I try. I'd be worn out too having to wade through all the shit splattered everywhere in that Atheism thread.

Is this what queenzone has become, 4 pages of bollocks? Can't we have a discussion about Mary singing AKOM in the bath or something?
That's nothing. Try 20 pages. It's been like this for years, and it's only getting worse. Queenzone is losing its purpose eventually.

Attending the concerts was an important and emotional experience for me. But we who were teenagers in the 1970's and 1980's can't claim to be more important or more knowledgable than these younger fans just because we were born earlier. That is just silly.

On the question of the question, I think we should try to discourage that level of digging for information with a simple, "Sorry, but her kids are grown and living a private life." No reason to try to make a big deal out of it.

But you never know. Mary and her grown children might attend the opening of the Freddie movie, so it is possible that eventually, people with that level of curiosity about them will get to see them being interviewed or something.

Donna
i certainly wasn't saying that.
here's what i said:

"He knows virtually everything except what it was like to actually be there".
by default you're implying that virtually everything is NOT going to a concert
therefore by consequence actually attending a concert = virtually nothing

in other words - i resent the fact that someone can so readily dismiss the experience of actually being there in preference for a listener's view of a tape of the gig.
surely they are BOTH of the same importance? if not with a bit more importance being attached to being there as opposed to later listening?

I understood the point. I think where we have the advantage is in our understanding of how original and exciting Queen were in that time period. Getting to experience it in real time - sequentially, especially the treat of hearing the music as it was released. Also, maybe we experienced more surprises, i.e. costumes, lighting, song choices and arrangements, because we didn't have a Youtube to preview everything. Also we didn't have the sadness of knowing about Freddie's illness. So it was probably a more joyous experience for the original fans. But otherwise, with the advantage of Youtube, these new fans can become experts on each concert.

I think this was just a misunderstanding in the way I worded it.

What I said was "He knows virtually everything except what it was like to actually be there." i.e., he knows virtually everything he can know, NOT INCLUDING what it was like to actually be there. That's what the "except" was there for.

Hope you understand now. I wasn't trying to undermine the importance of the atmosphere of being there firsthand, and I agree that the opinion of someone who was there is probably more valid. I was just trying to make the point that Greg can comment on the shows since he does in fact know a lot about them.

Also, brENsKi, just out of curiosity, is there a particular reason why you've suddenly started bolding large portions of your text?
