Tyler really sounds like a narrow-minded Bible belt American with his comments about Freddie. His criticism seems to be based on the fact that Freddie did not copy Mick Jagger.
As to the "Queen supported Aerosmith" topic - Queen never supported Aerosmith, both bands did support Mott The Hoople in Harrisburg, Pa May 1st, 1974. The fight was over which of the support bands was to play first and in the end Queen played first, then Aerosmith and finally the head liner Mott The Hoople. Famously, Brian emptied a full bottle of Jack Daniels with Jo Perry while the others were fighting and was subsequently drunk on stage :-) (source: As It Began)
He'd probably sound narrow minded if he still felt that way, and didn't appreciate what Queen had left as a legacy. Come to think of it, bands like Aerosmith, The Stones, and Led Zep came from backgrounds very influenced by blues musicians, and their definition of a great performance was to emulate the types of James Brown and other black artists who gave soulful performances.
So for Steven Tyler to picture Freddie at the time prancing on stage and putting his typical theatrical performance came across as odd, pretentious, and possibly even ridiculous for what those bands defined as pure rock n' roll. As time went by, it became apparent to people like Steven Tyler that Queen and Freddie created a unique style.
I appreciate Steven Tyler's honesty, and sure he might have been wrong then, but haven't there been things that over time proved all of us wrong?

What a prick, I can't stand this guy. He has a horrible, forced singing voice that sounds like a cat being dry raped and he just looks like a total cunt. The one decent song they did, Dream On, is an early one that he sings in his normal voice.

Geez, some people are taking this in the worst way possible.
I mean, this is far from the Robert Smith attitude when he told Rolling Stone that Queen never did anything good. Steven Tyler just admitted not being very fond of Queen back then, but thinks of them differently now.

I had no idea that Roger Taylor was a crack head. Is he still? When did he change if not...and why? Is this why the solo album has not come out in half a decade?

Crackhead?
I doubt it. He likes/liked to drink a lot and to go with it he snorted some coke (at least) late 70s / early 80's.
Up until now, he has always been quite healthy looking.
But it is hard to say from the surface. I didn't know from John Entwhistles (The Who Bass player) image that he was addicted to cocaine. But he was and that's why his heart stopped.

A friend of mine was stage manager at the SB Empire when Roger played there in 97 or whatever.
He said there were "bowls of gak" (cocaine) backstage.
This is highly peculiar.
People who do coke, normally carry it with them in small amounts by themselves.
"A Bowl of cokaine" seems to be nothing more than a myth.
I don't think it was meant literally. I think he meant that there was an abundance of coke around and it was being used openly.
He also mentioned that a well-known drug-provider on the rock circuit in London had an AAA pass and was hanging around.

Also my mate had no reason to lie. He's a seasoned old pro and that sort of shit doesn't impress him and he has no need to try to impress anyone with wild made up stories.
I'm familiar with twats who tell tall stories. This man is not one of them.

"Admits" he doesn't like Queen??
Some people? In fact, most people probably don't
Come to think of it, I probably wouldn't have liked them either had I been in the same situation. ..

Actually i heard the interview and i don't believe the statement that he appreciates Queen today. He sais it out of respect for Brian and Roger perhaps.
Its a bit like the Keith Richards statement towards Freddie but more mellow and sophisticated.
The thing is that classic rockers especially from that era either accepted Mercury becouse of his skills (so they are willing to overcome his weird tamperament) or dismissed him as too far out, exotic e.t.c.
Either way , as i see it, you have the feeling he was never perceived as exactly one of them.

Hmm. Seems like Rog hasn't dropped his bad habit then. He should, thinking his age already.

Good point
Although I think FM had more in common with Elton, Bowie and even Gary Glitter more than Aerosmith, Boston or Guns and Roses. ..

Splicksplack I dont' know if you are talking about Roger Taylor or Steven Tyler.
I have a hunch Steven Tyler and people thought Freddie and Queen were...gay. Which IS ironic coming from Steven Tyler but we should remember there was a good twenty years or more when and where guys were borderline transvestites and people did not consider that gay.
I guess Roger Taylor has flat out lied about doing drugs then, eh? That's really sad.

Some Queen fans need to get a bit off the cloud thinking that everyone should be worshiping Queen or Freddie for that matter. Sure, they've achieved a legendary status, but people are entitled not to like them as much as we do.
I'm not very fond of The Who or Bruce Springsteen, but it's undeniable that they've left an important footprint in music history.
When it comes down to Robert Smith when he commented that "Queen never did anything good", it sure comes across as him being a total prick considering that he was harshly criticizing a band that by far achieved more than his own. However, if he said "I'm not really into them", then that would be a more respectable statement than what he actually said.

That doesn't really come into it. Steven Tyler could spend eight hours saying nice things about Freddie, but he (Steven) still sucks devil dong.
