"It speaks for itself, his voice’: Queen’s Brian May calls Adam Lambert one

Brian May, who worked for decades alongside Freddie Mercury in Queen, knows a thing or two about vocalists. So when he talks about Adam Lambert, with whom the band just made its U.S. debut, it resonates.
“He’s extraordinary,” May says in this iHeart clip. “It speaks for itself, his voice. That’s one voice in a billion. Adam can do things which really I have never heard anyone else ever do in my life.”
Queen began with Mercury in 1970, and continued with him as their flamboyant frontman until Mercury was felled by AIDS-related illness in 1991. Since, Queen has worked with a number of other singers, notably Paul Rodgers, but none as long as Lambert.
Their Vegas date from earlier this month, the first-ever in the States, will be rebroadcast tonight (October 1, 2013) on the CW at 8 Eastern/7 Central — with Lambert promising that “it will be different than the live stream footage.”
Queen first took the stage alongside Lambert in 2009, during the finale of the American Idol singing program. May and Roger Taylor, the band’s original drummer, have since worked with Lambert at the 2011 EMAs and in a series of European dates last summer.

f*cking grand statement that one. Ronnie James Dio, Robert Plant, Brad Delph, Elvis, Gillain (in his prime), Coverdale and even Bonnet....funny how Brian is completely dismissive of all of his peers when he's over-egging the "Queen Pudding" ....even at the expense of disregarding Freddie - the vocalist that made him.
is there a medical name for "Myopia of the Ears" ? Cos the mad Dr appears to have it

I agree with Brenski on this one!
The only thing Lambert had in common with Freddie their are both and were gay.
Not impressed by the Las Vegas gig with either Lambert or the other character who were both screaming at the top of their lungs at points.
When you compare vocal abilities at similar ages Freddie was a million light years ahead of Lambert.

To read such statement coming from Dr. May just make me feel sad...And that´s not just because he seems to be disregarding Freddie, but it seems like he just want to sell a product, no matter what. As brENsKi just said, there are so many great rock vocalists that can outdo Lambert anytime and I´m sure that mr. May are pretty much aware of that fact.
The whole thing feels very artificial.

I don't think Brian May really means it, but he has to try and sell Adam Lambert, he couldn't speak bad of him. They need him as a draw for this generation, I think his voice is fair but no comparison, don't think anyone is in the league of Freddie Mercury, Queen's songs will never sound as good with anyone else singing them. I did tune in to see Roger and Brian, it is good to still see them play as well as they always have. Too bad John wasn't there. I think felt it was over when Freddie was no longer around, guess he didn't have the itch to perform like others anymore. It is puzzling as to why he only speaks to Brian and Roger via emails though.

I've been here for many many years and finally joined in 10/20/2007 11:20:00 PM, so I'm not really a newbie, just usually read only.
Brian and Roger said more:
“He’s extraordinary,” said May. “It speaks for itself, his voice. That’s one voice in a billion. Adam can do things which really I have never heard anyone else ever do in my life.
"We have a chance to do great things with Adam Lambert. He really is a wonderful foil for us, so it's a kind of gift from heaven, really. It's a lot of fun, too. He's nice to work with. He's fun and light and he doesn't have any airs and graces, and you know, he just gets on with it with us, and we seem to just, we feel like a family. It's nice."
May continued: "It wouldn't happen with, you know, a billion other people, but it just works with him. It feels comfortable and nice, and challenging, also, because he puts different interpretations on the songs, so it gets us to play a little differently. So, it's nice, it's alive."
Drummer Roger Taylor added: "I think even since we did a short tour of Europe last year with Adam, and even since then, he's just come on, he's just amazing. He's such a great interpreter of our songs and he has a great stage presence and we really enjoy working with him."

"Adam can do things which really I have never heard anyone else ever do"
I can't believe that he'd be this delusional. I'll put it down to the hard sell, in which case - Brian, you're being silly. Almost 50 years in bands, and you really honestly want people to believe AL is someone who stands above all else?
I'm not disparaging him by saying that I've heard better at bottom-rung music colleges and karaoke bars. I've heard a lot worse, too! He has some chops and his most recent outing was an improvement.
But seriously Brian, no. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Brian May has turned himself into a cheap whore. That what he's doing - he's prostituting himself, and he's not above using the name "Queen" to raise the price. It's one of the saddest things I've ever seen. I don't want anything to do with that ass, and I can't imagine spending another cent on him.

thomasquinn...> can anyone say it better?....don't think so..and let us stop now by giving attention to the pathetic words from one of the most impressive and brilliant guitarists ever but who is now an overage 'used to be' rock 'n roll star ... who is sadly suffering from amnesia and dementia.!!

Brian can't talk bad about Adam, if he make that he is saying "good bye adam" but i am agree with some many people in the forum, i don't like Adam ! I prefer Adam when he was in the music show (i dont remember the name), now he sing with a vibrato all the time with all the songs and i hate it !
