I wonder how Brian's chord bursts might have sounded if The Police weren't the biggest band in the world at the time?

I like this song. Nice melody and voice which tells you , "don't try suicide"! if there's best song against suicide so this song is one of the few against this evil!
You, sir, clearly have no concept of mental illness
And, on subject, the Rush song "The Pass" is a far superior song in every way

you seem to imply this is the best of a "few"
you love to bask in your ignorance don't you?
there are many songs that take an anti-suicide stance, freddie's is a nice little tune - but nothing special...and certainly nowhere near as great as these:
REM - everybody hurts
Rush - pass
wilson-phillips - Hold On
peter gabriel & kate bush - don't give up
allman brothers - dreams
elton john - someone saved my life tonight
It was my point of view, you know.
I don't try don't notice other singers, just their songs about anti suicide I don't like so much.

Your addendum makes no sense whatsoever

If you don't like something it won't be trouble me. Because I don't care if someone don't like something.
What don't you like if I'm Russian? What you have to against Russians people?

I'm thoroughly disappointed in the responses I've read so far. I don't want to sound mean, but did anyone who replied actually read my question?
It's a joke. The song Don't try suicide is a joke. The same way we are the champions is a joke. Doesn't anyone else see the humor? It's funny!
Yes it's well written. Great composition, well structured, great singing, great overall playing, but your missing the point of my question.
You're absolutely right, so here's my take:
Not sure if there wasn't a deeper layer to Don't Try Suicide (there often was in Freddie's lyrics). The lyrics always make me smile though, and just as it was with you the song grew on me over the years. Perhaps you need a certain, ahem, maturity to fully appreciate it.
I also happen to think it's a vastly underrated song. I particularly like the sparse intrumentation and the space which was an underlying theme for all of The Game and its successor. It also has a trademark that applies to all of Queen's best songs: it's very difficult to compare to any other band.

thank you fireplace. I'm glad someone on here has also understood the humor behind this song. And I guess I really didn't clarify, but I do really love this song and it's actually one of my favorites now. Basically, I love that Freddie never took anything too seriously even when writing a song about suicide. The middle section part( dont do it, don't do it, don't do it babe) cracks me up especially when he yells DO IT!
funny stuff.

I'm really glad someone else besides me actually thought this song sounded very much like something off of a Police record lol. Always liked the song but never really delved too much into why Freddie would write about suicide.

You really are a troll, Do you like anything?...you should be ashamed of yourself at you're age. alway's taking the negative stance on everything. Nowhere in this thread has anyone said Don't try Suicide is the best anti Suicide song af all time...I also like the song, the middle section sounds like something from west side story (someone else mentioned already) but I wouldn't say it's one of freddie's very best songs. A nice song on a very good Album.

This song is just more 'do as I say, not as I do' from Freddie I'm afraid.
