You may be right, Thomas, but I don't really agree with those thoughts - when I say something was 20 years ago, I mean it was 20 years ago. If I'm not sure, or estimating, I'd say "roughly 20 years ago". Perhaps Brian said 35 years because he knows it was 35 years? If so, then it would place it in "The Game" era. It may just be an estimation - only Brian knows, as he'll have the recording dates in front of him.

It is possible that he meant exactly 35 years ago, that's why I didn't rule out '79. However, based on the information available we cannot conclude that he definitely meant an exact time-span. Another problem is that we get the quote from a second-hand source: quotations are often modified slightly, intentionally or unintentionally, to fit the flow of an article, so for all we know there might have been an "about" just before "35 years ago" - we don't have a recording or a direct transcript available.
Bottom line: I do not mean to say that Brian *didn't* mean exactly 35 years ago, but that we don't have enough information to pinpoint an exact date. Therefore, I do not wish to jump to the conclusion that a new track is from the "The Game"-sessions. I could easily see it being from either the "Jazz" or "Hot Space" sessions, maybe even "News Of The World".

Tough 35 years ago do actually mean about 35 years ago it could actually be from The Game session. The Game was recorded in 1979 with more general Queen 70's sound that could have fit on any album from the 75-78 period while the sessions from early 1980 feature more syntheziser songs, as they broke with their No Synth rule. Maybe one the original songs from the 79 session which got dumped after the synth came in is now being reworked by Brian.

Maybe, maybe not. There is no evidence for anything you postulated from what Brian said - because Brian was (deliberately?) extremely vague.
