I must admit that i do like the track She Makes Me i think it glides into Lap Of The Gods to bring the album to a great end.

She makes me from SHA sung by Doctor May would have made top 20 i think.I am not sure if it was all Brian,was Freddie in there somewhere.Will have to give it another listen.
Great example of how we all hear things differently and have varied tastes - She Makes Me is my least favourite Queen song (and I'm including Hot Space!!); just a dirge to me!
same here. I hate the freakin' song. I ALWAYS skip it.
I love Hot Space btw.
On topic: my choice would be Drowse

Good choice i like Drowse aswell,it seems i am alone with my choice of She Makes Me.I have been playing some of the Queen albums last night and this morning.What strikes me is how good they sound compared to a lot of rock style releases these days.Can somebody give me a answer,what makesthem still sound so bloody good.I listen to Day at the races and Sheer Heart attack last night and they sounded fantastic.

She Makes Me is okay, especially as an album track, but I don't think it would even hit the Top 50. Spread Your Wings struck me for many years as a bit dull with a really dull chorus and a good guitar solo... Weird. I've grown to like it though, but I can see why it wasn't a hit. Not the same league as the Champions. Sail Away would have probably stood the only chance. With that in mind, NOBY didn't actually do that bad in 1998 (many people said at the time that #13 was very disappointing).

I always liked Long Away (which WAS a single in the US, but flopped!) ...........or should that be Long A-May? heh......
and if they had had a 2nd single from the first album, Doing All Right would have been a great choice! (let's just not even count the horrible single edit of Liar)

# 13 in the UK might have made up for a mediocre hit, but did it chart high elsewhere? I have noted # 13 UK in any Top30 only (some charts do end there), additionally # 32 PL, # 33 NL and # 75 DE. Summed together this unfortunately is quite disappointing indeed.

Fair comment. The UK charts are certainly not everything. Having said that, there is no denying that most encyclopedias of popular music pay no attention whatsoever to Euro or World charts. You could probably call it a hegemony of the UK and US in music. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but that's just the way it is. But as I said, point noted. And, in the case of NOBY, I think it's a very good point.

For some reason this thread came up when I did a search. Just wanted to say that I finally got my hands on copy of the Liar US edit and it's not half bad to be honest. Short, punchy. Hearing the album cut after this would be a treat for sure, but this is great.

Can't agree, I quite like it but it would have bombed as a single

The best single Queen never had was You And I

If you consider roughly half of AKOM and Miracle albums were A-sides, had ANATO received the same treatment we would've had at least four singles besides Bo Rhap and Best Friend. Those could have been, based on radio-friendliness:
* '39
* I'm in Love with My Car
* Good Company
* Love of My Life
And based on that assumption, plus the band's popularity at the time, the fact they hadn't still pierced public consciousness that much (therefore leaving more room for flexibility in terms of lead singer, etc.) and the way some hit singles sounded at the time, I'd say at least two of those songs would've had a good chance of being top ten either in Britain or America. Three of those four songs were not written or sung by Fred, so there you have it.

Can't say I agree with Good Company unfortunately, it's a grand song, but couldn't see it hitting the top 20.
You and I could have, better choice than GOFLB anyway.
For the record, I think Spread Your Wings is a nice song, but it's biggest problem is it's production. Hell, the live killers version sounded much better. If it had been recorded for ANATO or ADATR, it could have made it I think.

The BBC version of SYW kicks the studio versions arse.
