Im no drummer by any means but Roger seems to use his body as well as his arms to drum nowadays, thats being overweight.I mean he seems to have to put more effort into it. Not sure if he has slimmed down recently but being a bit chunkier I guess you may lose some of the fast reflexes and make things look like hard work. Roger doesnt drum much but Im guessing he will be getting into shape for the tour because he has to really.

Doesnt put half the effort in,looks unfit rather than an age thing. what are your thoughts? Is he slimmer now?

I was at the Ziggo Dome show of Queen and Adam Lambert in January and Roger can still sing pretty damn good, and he can still drum decent.
However what occured me was that:
1: He didn't really hit that hard anymore (Charlie Watts is about 7-8 years older and he really hits the drums like his life depends on it)
He most of the time rested his arm on the snaredrum (if you people know what i mean)
2: Rufus had a full drumkit next to Roger and he (Rufus) would constantly thicken the snare by hitting it when Roger was hitting his, he was drumming along (And i'm not talking about percussive work, but really drumming) to about 8-10 songs.
3: His fills are mostly very sparse, Rufus takes up most of the big fills (Like the Fat Bottomed Girls one) and the fills that Roger does are repetetive and actually kinda lifeless, he hits them just like he hits the snare drum almost..
Too bad, i haven't seen them perform before so how it was live i have no clue, but he seemd to be a much better drummer around 2008 when they performed with Paul Rodgers..

Our Roger isn't getting any younger. He'll try to get back in shape of course, but when you're not playing drums frequently you obviously loose touch. I do hope they do not use a second drummer, that would be a disgrace.
I also hope he'll try to remember the lyrics in stead of Reading them from screen or papers.[/QUOTE] why? Niel pert sounds as good as ever, and he's the same age as Roger....

exactly! - as does Ian Paice (currently about the only good thing in Deep Purple's current tribute band)

Saw them in Jan at the O2, and agree that Rufus seems to have done as much work as Roger really. Roger's drumming looks to be about 60% as good as it was at his peak. Brian's guitar, on the other hand, is more like 85%.
