Just possibly, he feels, that there is too much attention paid to this over-produced, mega-hyped homage to the world of musicals and wouldn't go even if he was given the full VIP treatment. Perhaps John would like to see some cracking archove releases focussed on and the true image of the band restored to the position it so rightly deserves.

I'm confused. Is John retired from the music business or retired from life in general? Even if he doesn't want to perform with Queen, what's the harm in coming along to see the final We Will Rock You show? It's as if he's scared of the public and genuinely makes me wonder if he leaves the house much these days for fear of being recognised. OK, there is a chance he was otherwise engaged and really couldn't attend, but my guess was his absence was through choice.
It is VERY strange that we dont see more pics of him in social media. In these days when everybody has a phone with camera its really a mystery that we never see anything. As you say it seems like he has retired from life outside the house.

Here is a video of the encore at the last WWRY -- "The Show Must Go On":
What on earth have they done to the song? It sounded soooo boring! Other than Brian's guitar solo and of course Roger on the drums.. But otherwise, totally snooze-worthy!
Is there any cover of "The Show Must Go On" that dosen't sound boring?
They all sound like musical theatre to me.
The track has Freddie all over combined with the passion of a dying man.
It's impossible to chanel its spirit.

Queen Extravaganza does The Show Must go on brilliantly!!

By the way, after years and years of listening live covers of The Show Must Go On i come to think that the track has advanced studio artistry without that beeing so evident when listening to it.
I bet that even Queen kwnew that they could never reprodude its electricity live, and they didnt need too, due to the events of the time.
Even if he was there doubt family would say so. Can you imagine. Is john here? "Oh yeh hes stood over there" yeh thats good enough reason for john to not attend. The guy would be lynched.

John Deacon is one strange man. As much stick Brian and Roger gets, I have to say I am glad that they are still public. If they all followed the John Deacon route it would be quite boring.

why is he "strange"????
he was always the quiet and private man of the band, - and he retired in 1997. why can't some people just respect and accept that?
do you know what recluse means? because when you add "retired" and "recluse" to "private" and "quiet" the end result is invisible. i think those who need to suck in every bit of queen detail should leave the guy alone.
as for the "followed the John Deacon route it would be quite boring." comment....many would say that Brian 7 Roger's post 1991 route has (more often than not) been 1,000 times more damaging to the queen legacy, than john's route.

It is extremely strange that we NEVER see a photos of him knowing that everyone carry a camera these days. Makes me wonder if he ever leaves the house at all. If he has some kind of nerve problem it is very sad obviously.
And it is not normal to just cut all contact with Brian and Roger which has effectivly done.

In the recent (?) interview that Roger did with Rockaxis he mentions that John couldn't continue after 1997, due to his psychological fragility and this had effected John pretty badly. Must be hard for him and his family. As much as I would be interested to read/hear a new interview with him - if he doesn't want to see/speak to people then fair enough - his health is more important

Leave the man live his life. The last alive sir of Queen.

I'm one of those who still longs to see John appearing to something Queen related once in a lifetime.
Nothing wrong with that, he was 25% of the band we worship, the band we've been investing time and money for
decades. Of course I respect the man's decision, but that doesn't stop me from wanting or waiting for
him to show himself in some way. It is the one thing I still long for when it comes to Queen nowadays
(and Brian's haircut as well).
That said, searching for any sign of John, I sometimes take a look at his children social networks (no
stalking here as they are open to anyone) and time and again they mention 'dad'. "A gift from mom and
dad", "at the airport with mom and dad", "dad came and pick me up". If that's really nothing important
or of interest for Queen fans, I at least know that YES, John leaves the house sometimes =)

John was never the Showman/Rock n' Roll type of guy. More of a family man. Shy, even. In a way, it's funny that he performed in front of 100.000's of people.
He retired and that was well deserved. The years with Queen were very stressfull in all kind of ways. And, well, he has a LOT of money.
What I don't understand is that after '97, he never did one interview or public appearance. Just for the fun of it, or just for the fans.
Nobody asks him to tour or record new songs. But projects like the "days of our lives" documentary wouldve been much better with John's story in it.
And, okay, a one-off performance with brian and roger, who wouldnt want to see that?
Of course, we can hope, but realistically, i dont think we will see or hear from John again. Bloody Shame!

I don't really care if John doesn't want to perform anymore, I can totally understand that. I'd love to see him do AOBTD or pretty much any other song, but I can totally understand that he doesn't want to do that anymore. I think it's a shame though that he doesn't even want to be interviewed or something, for something like the Days Of Our Lives documentary.

A lot of people have quit their bands, but not many faded into complete obscurity by choice.
Grace Slick is probably the only other one I can think of.
