Lets be realistic.
Anal sex between males is the one most demonised form of intercorse, by far. It associates with concepts of power, humiliation, gender identity and untill some years ago, death itshelf. It still carries a lot of bourdain.
Humor and sarcasm in a "intentions not detectable" form of comunication as it is writting on a forum can create friction. Therefore the fuss.
The use of the N-word and its limitations was mentioned in a context similar to this one, in wich humor is the main element.
I am not saying "arse Olympics" should be concidered necessarily homophobic. I am saying "I've heard homosexual friends say much worse" is not the same, or all forgiving to this scenario.

A couple of the terms used are just downright vulgar which the tone of the original posting was not.
The sort of remarks I can imagine being made down the pub in the company of balding, fat middle aged men with ever diminishing prospects of engaging in sexual activity of any nature.

well as the poster of the original "arse olympics" comment i'd like you to read it again...in context:
brENsKi wrote:so basically you want to know where "apart from his own home and hotels on tour" -that Freddie participated in his "arse olympics"
nothing on this site surprises me anymore, disgusts maybe, surprises no.
now how about you read it properly...my comment is a sarcastic one aimed wholly at the OP and my disgust that a site setup to discuss a band (a musical band) can sink to such denigrated levels as to talk about where freddie hung out...with references to mineshaft, hedonism and bathouses...all under the pretext of "artistic inspiration"...what a load of old cock!!!
no matter which way you cut it...the OP has a lot to answer for...esp when you consider denial and counter-denial based on "integrity" and "ethnographic" bollocks...all of which can be discredited with his/hers one later post:
luthorn wrote: Well, I am glad we got things cleared up with everyone. Now, let's proceed with the fun...
none of that sounds like the OP was starting any kind of serious topic...does it?
any of you accusatory c*nts care to come back and apologise to me now? or are you ALL far too of a "Luthornic" persuasion to admit you could be wrong?

Brenski, a serious question for you: are you an old bitter geezer or are you just mentally constipated?

so anyone that disagrees with YOU is a "bitter old geezer" or "mentally constipated" ???? nice one.
Firstly, this is an open forum and I'm just as entitled to say what i think as you are - and my opinion is this is a seedy, grubby little thread that dozens of posts later YOU have contributed or concluded NOTHING to your so-called main theme:
luthorn wrote: On the deeper level, the Man and his music were affected by the environment he surrounded himeself with. My goal is to understand the world of the 1970s-80s and seek reflection in Queen art.

so go on then - why don't YOU direct YOUR thread in the supposed genuine direction you claimed it was meant to be....or would YOU rather just talk smut and then attack those brave enough to "out" you for it?
I'll back out now - but I'll be back when you have NOT produced anything genuine as per your above comment.

yes, so mental constipation it is. Brenski why don't you let me do my research on the subject and have a constructive conversation with members of the forum who are not trolls (brenski = troll). Do project your mental constipation on some other thread. good bye...

so that's the third insult you have levelled at me now. Nowhere have i insulted you - i've criticised the subject matter of your thread but I have not made personal comments or insulted you - despite your attempts at provocation.

If you think Brenski is a troll, you're either high on something or simply a moron. Seriously, you don't have to agree with him, you don't even have to like him, but calling him a troll is so ludicrous that it immediately makes you suspect. He's been contributing here for years and years.

Considering that you opened a topic that suggests a morbid fascination with a deceased star's sex life, a topic where you are implicitly screaming for details of debauchery, a topic the subject of which you later referred to as "fun", I really don't think you're in any kind of position to criticize the mindset of anyone.

I've been here for years and years, but I do not have a deity status because I do not troll.

Now, on the serious note for those who are interested in the subjects of the past, here is a bit of research I work with: Everyone Always Gets Lost

THE BATHHOUSE is central to gay male experience, yet it's hard to explain to anyone who hasn't visited one why this is so. It isn't only the sex hunt, or the reckless communitarian ecstasy. It has something to do with drink and drugs and maybe with architecture: your head rises to the ceiling while the cubicle walls stop halfway up. Slaps and moans from the next room smells! set off the emptiness of your
own. Someone told me a bathhouse is like an airport, everyone waiting for his plane to come in. In a 1989 essay about Allen Ginsberg, Thom Gunn notes that Ginsberg "Caspiretdo the principle of orgy, which is subversive to every authoritative state, perhaps to the idea of state itself." Although Gunn has mixed feelings about Ginsberg's poetry ("Bad taste and honesty have marked [it]
from the start"), the two aspire to the same principle, a visionary carnal politics. "We tried," Gunn writes elsewhere, "to make the ecstatic commonplace, each night of it a building for an apocalyptic Holy City-a City of Eros. Included in Gunn's most recent collection of poems, Boss Cupid, is "SaturdayN ight," a poem which took fifteen years to write. "Saturday Night" describes a typical night at The Barracks,
a San Francisco bathhouse that in the Seventies was both "famous" and "lurid," unusual too in that it was "'raided not by the vice but the narcotics squad." The place later burned down.
A 1991 essay, "Two Saturday Nights: Rewriting a Poem," tells us Gunn wrote the original "Saturday Night" (in 1976, presumably) while he was reading The Divine Comedy. Terza rima, Dante's verse form, reminded Gunn "of a big dog running fast, its bodly packed with meat and muscle and import." Certainly the interlacing of aba bcb cdc, where the unrhymed, sandwiched line of the first three lines
next three, allows the poem to bound ahead. Gunn's first version of "'Saturday Night" is packed with muscle and meat too, but may lack import. Instead of leaping forward, it descends. The bathhouse's maze of corridors "'have a sense of being underground / As in a mine." (A legendary New York sex club of the same era was called The Mineshaft.) Going below the earth's surface to pick out desire. Soon The Barracks becomes a place of memory as well as desire. Men in towels peer into obscure rooms "Like people in shelters searching for their friends / Among the group come newest from the street." Air raid shelters, that is. Born in England in 1929 (he moved to the United States in 1954), Gunn is old enough to...

This thread is so stupid...It was Freddie's private life...he paid with his life for being promiscuous and not protecting himself while having sex..He also decided to let Paul Prenter have a bad influence on him. Freddie is dead...There's no turning back.

I dont doubt you find the topic distasteful but the thread went from lurid voyeuerism to vulgarity.
The worst thing now is i cant get the words "arse olympics" out my head now...its certainly catchy!
