I do have the option to record to uncompressed LPCM on my DVD recorder (as opposed to Dolby Digital) though I am not sure if this will yield better results as I assume the audio will be broadcast in a compressed format? (Similar in concept to taking an MP3 converting it to wav and claiming it is lossless).

It is no problem for me to record LPCM so I will do that just in case there is a benefit.

Certainly go for the LPCM recording, it will save the audio being compressed even further. Good luck and thanks for helping out.

That's great, one thing though. If possible use the scart output with RGB on your box to the scart input with RGB on your DVD recorder (if it has one).
Sorry Barry it is composite only, does RGB make much of a difference? Have you ever had the opportunity to do any visual comparison?
Usually those visual comparisons are used in (retro) gaming, but this should be a good indicator :)

Thanks for that Nitroboy.

I have recorded the program but the audio sounds mono to me? It is not a fault on the recording as the adverts/commercials are in stereo - do you guys still want it? It is the version where Freddie's voice cracks in FBG, probably just the original mono audio from the 1983 "The Tube" broadcast rather than an alternate stereo mix.

Yes please.

OK Barry, I was going to edit out the adverts but I might leave them in just to prove that my equipment was recording OK in stereo!!! Have you any preference, adverts in or out?

Please do upload it if you don't mind. :)

Leaving them in is fine by me, and yes the edited re-broadcast on channel 4 was also mono. Three of the songs are different on the Sky Arts edit though. Google searches reveal a possible Radio broadcast which might explain the stereo version.

You mean the stereo audio I posted in this thread?

It's bizarre that it switches to mono after the first few songs. I still have no idea how these got out, and what the source is.

Yes, I left it uploading to Mega overnight but it is only a quarter completed this morning? I am not sure why it is so slow to upload, does anyone know how long it should take to upload a DVD to Mega? I will post a link when it is finished.

I think the hope was that this would be a more complete version of your alternate stereo mix but alas it is not.

Don't worry about it, Mega can be very slow at times. Thank you once again for doing this! :)

No problem Chin. As discussed previously I recorded it in the best quality available (XP it is called on my Panasonic) and uncompressed audio so I guess that makes it quite a big file!

It is approximately half way uploaded at the moment!

That's great, I have a Panasonic VHS/DVD Recording Combo so I understand your quality option :P
