Couldn't say for sure with regard to John, but my ears are the proof enough for me that it is 100% Roger on drums! :-)
I couldn't recognise his playing if my life depended on it, but I'll take your word for it. ;)

What song was recorded last for Innuendo?
I think it was Lost Opportunity, recorded AFTER the release of Innuendo back in January 1991.
Interesting. Do you have a source to back that up?
It mentioned in the notes for Innuemdo 2011 deluxe 2CD. Same kind of 'interesting' info is for Thank God It's Christmas in the notes for The Works 2011 deluxe 2CD.
Strangely enough, that a lot of people didn't notice these crumbs of useful info in the overall useless notes for 2011 remasters.
"I think" it meant I thought I saw that piece of info somewhere, that was it, thanks for the reminder CMI, hehe ;)

It's a nice track for a B-side actually. I always quite liked it. It was never my favourite song but it's decent.
I wonder if Brian intended it to be on Back to the Light, or wrote it hoping it would be on the next album, or if it was just a little ditty he wanted to get out of his system?

My assumption about Lost Opportunity is that it never was intented to be part of Back to the Light. One-take songs are usually that: an spontaneous idea; maybe from the moment, maybe from a week ago...

One positive note about Lost Opportunity: its drum sound.

Absolutely - so natural, crisp and clear, has presence and a natural room ambience - very Roger.

My Secret Fantasy was also recorded in November 1990.

Is there proof of this?
If that's true, I'd be surprised they were starting to write a bad song that late in the sessions. They'd been at work already for a year, and surely they would have had 10 or 11 of the final selections made.

potentially in down time for the album when Fred was unavailable? I am doubtful that John, Brian and Roger would have got together separately after the sessions had 'wrapped up', bearing in mind Freddie's health
I'm sure much of 1990 was like that, too..

True - it begs the questions as to whether there are more tracks put down on tape by Roger, Brian and John as a three piece over 89-91, when they were in or around the studio and perhaps Freddie was too ill on any given day.

It's mostly wishful thinking in my opinion. All three of them were doing other things at the time as well.

I don't remember where I exactly read it, but I do recall reading that they had they had set up a 'one week on, one week off' recording schedule for the Innuendo sessions. Mostly for Freddie's health, and to give him proper time to recoup and gather energy between sessions. That was probably the big delay, not to mention they really felt strong about the work they were producing and were probably being rather meticulous with the harmonies, lyrics, guitars, etc.

My interpretation of the sleeve notes for Innuendo, which mention Lost Opportunity, is that it was started for the next album sessions, and so it wasn't the last song recorded for Innuendo, but rather the first song (that we know of, or at least that was released) recorded for the next album.

Another interpretation could be that they've decided to include Lost Opportunity as part as Innuendo even tho they knew it was meant for a next Queen album so... that should make it the last Innuendo song (the last one that we know of.)
Otherwise shouldn't we count Mother Love, You Don't Fool Me and Winter's Tale —and maybe other unknown songs so far recorded after Innuendo's sessions— as part of it?
