I am 50 this year, I first saw Queen '82 at Elland Road, then the 4 times on the Queenworks tour, that they initially anounced the 4 dates for. But couldn't get tickets for the extra gigs. Then in 86 I left my girlfriend at the time to queue up for Queen tickets at Manchester, my home city, so I could see them. I did see her again though, er, sometimes.
The last great album Queen ever did, was the Game. So many people on this site, love 80's Queen. How sad is that? If Queen started in 1982, I would not be a fan. Which is why, people who discovered rhem after 1982 are not real Queen fans.
When I first saw Queen in 1982 as a nervous 17 year old, who could have bought a million tickets for that gig at Elland Rd, you really wouldn't have known how badly the press viewed Queen. I couldn't even get anyone to go with me, however the Works tour, I could have got many to go with me, which I did.
Hot Space is an album I do actually like, the rest after it, I don't. Had I discovered Queen after 1984, I would not be a fan. Every album after that is awful.
So I get, most people on here love 80's Queen, I don't. Under Pressure, was the last great song they did, IMO.
Tonights gig, was dreadful. I expect to get trolled. But if Roger and Brian want a frog singing..., then I don't. I have paid so much more money for Queen stuff than 80's and beyond fans and I don't give a toss about you.
But to be a Queen fan in the 70's was embarrassing, to be a Queen fan now, is even more so. Adam Lambert is dreadful, Bryan May is burned out. Spike Edney is a joke. And tonights show was horrendous. My opinion, which, you will have a go at. But in this format, I would not become a fan. I first heard Queen sing Seven seas of Rhye, then I was a fan. Those that will have a go at me, like Tom Christie, first heard the MIH, album, which was also dreadful. I'm a real Queen fan, but embarrassed by last nights performance.

I'd hate to be 50 and be bothered posting something like the above. Like something a teenager would post and fight about. Surely at 50 you don't care about who the greatest band of all time are, or get embarrassed at something ultimately pointless etc. I find the above post worrying.

Day Dop, no I can't see how prepostorus it is. People like Tom Christie and even Sebastion, think they have all the knowledge on Queen.
They don't. Queen, were lower than low in the 70's however from 1984 they were massive, but crap.
I was there, you two wasn't. That's my opinion, I saw them live. Did you?
"If Queen started in 1982, I would not be a fan. Which is why, people who discovered rhem after 1982 are not real Queen fans."
Look how you've wrote that again, or are you really that self centered and ignorant. Surely not!
What you've essentially written there is: because you wouldn't be a fan if they started out in '82, that's why people who discovered them after '82 are not real fans. Oh right, you're the center of the universe.
And have you ever heard of such as thing as back catalog?
By your logic, people who love the music of Mozart aren't real fans because they weren't (for example) alive when he started out.
See the issues with what you said now?
Spot on. A ridiculous assertion from "horse feathers", poorly made.
I'm also 50 this year and find the OP to be suffering some sort of delusional ageist superiority complex.
Quite frankly, you can discover a band for the first time at any age and explore their history. Having said that, the premise of the OP is flawed to begin with. Queen weren't big in the 70s??? There speaketh the voice of ignorance

I just finished watching the recording. Awful? No, definitely not. Fantastic, no, not at all. They were "OK", nothing more, nothing less. The magic is gone forever, deal with it, I learned to deal with it. The "old" Queen we all loved is gone and will never come back.
That makes 2 of us!

I Enjoy queen along with many other bands.
Any fan has the right to enjoy albums from any period as they see fit. A 15 year old fan could not have been there in the beginning but is no less of a fan because of their age.
Paul Rodgers delivered the songs showing great passion for the music above all else.
New Year's Eve was a display of hype over substance Adam lambert is using this opportunity for his own agenda and will do nothing for the musical legacy of queen. The band could have found somebody unknown whose desire to sing queen songs was their only agenda. Journey maintained their musical integrity without the need for a publicity grabbing frontman to stay relevant on the concert circuit. Tickets will sell but will history view this period of queen as a band or just the slow demise of a publicity seeking extravaganza.
I am 52 & have seen hundreds of bands, my views are as a music fan and understand bands need to evolve with new members for many reasons.so glad I haven't bought tickets for upcoming shows New Year's Eve was nothing more than shameful for this great band

It's fine to trash Queen+AL, religion, politicians etc but a line must be drawn at that kind of talk. A full & immediate apology is required.

Haha I just through that out there to keep in line with the general mean spirits....apologies!

Mr.Music: Great post and for once someone on here is talking 100% truth.
I agree the news years eve concert was shameful and shoddy.
Lambert is no showman, Lambert is no musician either, he is just a glorified karaoke singer
and he sings with his tongue out like a deluded monitor lizard! yuk.

spot on. don't know why we didn't see it sooner....the death threats, the psychotic outbursts, the bizarre fantasist statements about "friendships" and rewriting queen history...and now THREE login/usernames on ONE SITE...

well all any of us can bring to this are opinions!!
i was fortunate enough or some of you might say unfortunate enough! to be actually there on new years eve and let me tell you there was not one single hater in the room, everyone was up on there feet and singing along and cheering, i think all negativity if there was any, was left upon entering the building! was definitely the best new years eve ive ever had, granted im only in my 20's but i dont think anything will ever beat it!! looking forward even more now to the tour!
Happy new Year guys!!

Brenski: you clearly are very disturbed and you are stalking me on here which is very creepy.
You are obsessed to the stage where you NOW are accusing me of having three user names on this site, how disturbing of you
to think that!
Brenski YOU are clearly schizophrenic and need psychiatric help!

Mr music just sounds like an ordinary "long time reader, first time poster"
I read this place for at least a year or two before discussing something immediate. (Queen Hollywood walk of fame event)
