that's the thing isn't it ^

if Jeff Lynne, floyd, zep, blackmore etc did a tour - i'd sell my car for a ticket
but queen (and variants of) ???? doesn't even generate a "huh?" from me

it's neither indifference/ambivalence for what they're doing or raging hate for the concept of milking for milking's sake
I honestly can't even be arsed with a "so what?"

That was some serious rambling, matt........maybe it's down to the venue, if what you say is true, because I was at the show 9 days later at the Palace of Auburn Hills, and it seemed loud enough to me from the back of the main floor section (not the loudest concert I'd even been to for sure, but loud enough nonetheless) and the crowd was definitely into it. (Brian's comment when receiving loud cheers before starting LOML: "Oh my god, I don't think I've ever heard a noise like that before! :D)

And I STILL don't get what all the damn indignation about Adam wearing a crown (which looks nothing like the one Freddie famously wore on stage, by the way!) is all about, but maybe that's another topic......I was more upset (too strong a word, really, it was more like "mildly annoyed") by that opera singer who sang a few songs with Brian and Kerry coming out carrying and eventually putting on a replica of Freddie's yellow jacket....(I forget exactly what it was, but I think there was some sort of story behind that...)

Good evening Constantinople. The best audience in the world!

Why would he wear a gold crown? I thought that Lambert apparently wasn't trying to be Freddie in any way. With Freddie it was part of his over the top stage persona. With Lambert however, its a case of "wtf are you doing?"

I'd see an opera singer singing a few songs with Brian and Kerry wearing a Freddie's yellow jacket as paying tribute. Lambert fronting Queen+ wearing a crown however, is a different story. At best, it's tacky, worthy of little more than an eye roll - Lambert attempting to do something that Freddie could get away with. At worst, it comes across as thoughtlessly placing himself in the same league.

What, Adam doesn't have an 'over-the-top stage persona'? Personally, I don't think he's really that over the top, but to listen to some of comments about him here and elsewhere, you'd think Brian and Roger were going on stage with a drag queen or something.......

Crazy idea here, but maybe that's what Adam is doing with the crown....paying tribute.

So, what.....no singer is allowed to wear a crown onstage, ever, no matter if it looks like the one Freddie wore or not?? And why can the opera singer get away with it when Adam cant?

And I think that's a key thing there.....it's a completely different damn crown!!!! (I read somewhere it's a type of crown a prince would wear, as opposed to a king or queen :D)

Not particularly.

Others comments don't alter my opinion on this matter.

I'd already stated my views on that one when I wrote "I'd see an opera singer singing a few songs with Brian and Kerry wearing a Freddie's yellow jacket as paying tribute. He's allowed to do as he pleases, but that doesn't it has to be accepted by me as anything other than tacky and/or clumsy.
It's not as if it's any singer in any scenario either, it's a singer filling in for Queen+. As for the crown itself being a different design, I think that's irrelevant.

not a big fan of Lambert's voice. he sounds hike pitched and delivery of each song sounds the same or very similar. there is lack of personality behind delivery.

I agree. Adam has an exact way of doing things, whilst Freddie always sings the songs how he feels.

I'm so glad to see that I am not the only one who feels this way about the crown and the delivery of the performances....I just can't ....

Ok, to be fair I just listened again to Queen with Adam, again.

Again, the guy can sing, but he is no Freddie, and never will be. I guess IMO he is more a "canned" version of FM as in imitation. Of course FM is gone, and we can't have him back, but its just too hard to follow a major superstar like FM.

I can see a replacement front man for bands that never hit the big time, but for a band that was so iconic as Queen its just not possible. Sorta like a great movie just don't need a part 2, or a remake.

The only other artist that IMO can compare to FM is Elvis, for which there is no Elvis tribute artist alive that can capture what once was.

Here is where the line in the sand gets completely blown away, again, IMO. Here is Adam singing the first part of BR with FM thrown in here, and there.

For people who like Adam, hey, that's great, and I'm glad to see Brian, and Roger having a good time, but its just not for me.

I'm going to risk another post here.... I started being a Queen fan with the self entitled Queen album...way back in the day.l,I anxiously awaited the release of a new album....one of my favorites , "Queen II " I was a huge fan for many years...there were things the band did here and there that didn't appeal to me, but I remained a fan.....Bri's wicked guitar licks , Deacy's laid back Mr Cool..Rogers bad ass drumming and the Incomparable magic that was Freddie Mercury .....the voice...the charisma.... The over the top performances .... Freddie was to me perfection...and I might add the only dude I ever knew who could rock a pair of white jeans .
I am not at all enamored with this collaboration, simply because Adams style of singing is not what sounds good TO ME ...I don't listen to music because someone else tells me it sounds good . I listen because It sounds good to me and I LIKE IT ! His stage presentation is not at all what I personally want to see from my rock god.He might have the perfect pitch and be able to hit the notes, but there is just something missing there FOR ME .
To those who hear it and see it differently ...good on you !
I have to give the kid kudos though for even attempting to step into Freddies shoes . Music, to me is subjective as to what sounds good to my ears, what releases those pleasure endorphins through my brain...I think I liked Queen PR better because I LIKE Paul Rogers voice and singing , Paul didn't try to be Freddie ! But more or less did his own thing with the songs...sometimes it worked and sometimes not so much , but I was cool with it .His voice sounds pleasing to my ears, it's my style of music...Adams while technically a good voice, is not pleasing to MY ears .Freddie is gone and he simply cannot be replaced. He was a real One Of a Kind and IMO it's best to not even try to come close cause it just ain't gonna happen.
However, I get that Brian and Roger want to continue to play the music and sadly, Freddie is not here to do the gigs so they chose Adam Lambert to step into the role of front man and hit the road. For all of those who are enjoying it , I say rock on....it's just not for me.
Disclaimer...I'm not a liar or a troll as I've been labelled elsewhere because I am a newbie...lm not someone returning here under another name to vilify the name of Adam Lambert....I'm just an old rocker chic from back in the day who finally got up the nerve to actually register and post and who likes what I like and knows what I like and what I don't like.
