A Night At The Odeon - video edits?

I just wondered if anyone has spotted any yet?
For example, in the Rainbow DVD the very final shot of White Queen is different from old master.
Obviously I realise that this release was one night so they can't 'fly in' stuff from a different night. But maybe there's the odd duplicated shot to cover a bad edit or bad choice of camera angle?
It's a shame that the original master with Bob Harris in a white suit & top hat didn't make it (and that the final credits have been remade). I guess we should hang onto our recent BBC off-air recording then at least we'll have the Old Grey Whistle Test intro as per the original live transmission.
If anyone from QUEEN PRODUCTIONS is reading this then can I say: GREAT JOB!! THANKS - LOOKS & SOUNDS BRILLIANT!!

I noticed a small edit during March of the Black Queen, when Roger sings his part. They cut to him playing and singing really quickly, which I don't believe was in the original cut.

I also noticed something interesting. During the Rock N Roll Medley, it seems they had to blur the old credits that were playing over the footage from the original broadcast. If you pay close enough attention, you can see the blurry lines moving up the frame. It starts near the end of the medley but isn't much of a problem or distraction. But it seems they did not have access to any of the original footage to avoid those original broadcast credits.

Ah cool - thanks I'll check out the blurred credits…

I imagine that, as it went out live, the original credits would be 'burnt in' to transmission recording?

Well if they used tapes from the broadcast rather than the cameras themselves, then they probably would have those credits "burnt in".

So that note in the booklet "Clarity tape transfer" refers to the audio tapes ?

Yeah - I'm fairly sure there were more new shot choices on the 2014 version than there were ones retained from the VHS version.

At that time it was quite usual not to load camera's with tapes hence it is a "live"broadcast.

It was also directed on the fly , so only the directors tape machine was loaded, for further re-broadcasts. This also explains why the encores weren't recorded : perhaps they were filmed at the time but the tape recorder was turned off when the broadcast finished. Or they just stopped filming when the broadcast was over.

The same reason for Knebworth : no tapes loaded because it was for the screens only. (of course Doro brought along a 16mm for their docu "Magic Years"

The same for Blanckenberghe 1975 : it was broadcasted live but nothing is saved in the archive : no tapes loaded.... And in 1975 a VCR was a alien machine for the consumer market.

Well, before folks start shouting "What???!!!!", Queen refused to play anyway apparantly, so....

It was the Golden Lion festival in Belgium. Q won an award.
July I think.

They did perform the mimed version of Killer Queen as stated by the promotor Ludo De Bruyn. At first there were some issues regarding their accomodation and perhaps some finacial issues as well, but in the end they went on stage.

The Festival der Gouden Leeuwen was a 2 day event first day national Belgian artists and the second day international artists. Like Queen and The Clash that august day in 1975.

Right at the end of the 2009 BBC broadcast (when the picture freezes and changes to black and white) Freddie says "Merry Christmas" but this is cut on the new DVD and CD? It seems a strange editorial choice as other Christmas references are left in?

I have an old unedited VHS (with a turning time clock on the top) and Freddie does indeed say "Merry Christmas" at that point.

Would anybody here be interested in a comparison video which would compare the full OGWT broadcast with the new version ?

I would be interested in that but it seems like a lot of work, have you done it already?

I think the fascination with this concert stems from the fact that has been edited so much over the years it's like trying to reconstruct a giant jigsaw puzzle! I was hoping that this new version would be complete and unedited but it's never that simple with Queen Productions!

In Liar where Freddie originally fucked up the line 'liar liar...' they showed a shot of him from behind instead from the front. That way they hide the fact that the vocal overdub wouldn't have fitted what Freddie was singing visually.

I'll be definitely doing it for myself later this week, that's why I wanted to know if this kind of stuff is interesting for more people than just me.
