NEW Documentary: Queen - From Rags to Rhapsody - 18th December 2015, 10pm, BBC4

(followed by Queen - A Night At The Odeon, 1975)

As ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ marks it’s 40th Anniversary, this new documentary digs deep into archive to tell the story of Queen as a struggling band gigging at pubs and colleges to the moment they broke the UK with what was to become one of, if not the, greatest song of all time.

Never have the formative years Queen’s career been explored in such detail with a wealthy of unseen interviews, recently unearthed rushes of Queen’s first ever video and outtakes from the recording sessions ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ itself. No talking heads. No random DJs or hangers on. This is the unique story of early Queen told by the band.

It’s simple. It’s real. It’s raw.

It’s what happened.

Featuring:

- Unseen rushes from Keep Yourself and Liar videos 1973 (Queen’s first videos)

- Unreleased interviews with the band conducted by Bob Harris from 1977 - remastered from film to HD.

- Queen’s first ever TV interview 1975 - recently discovered in Australia.

- Now I’m Here Live on Top of the Pops 1975 - Missing believed wiped, broadcast here for the first time.

- Live performances from Hyde Park ’76, The Rainbow ‘74 and Hammersmith ‘1975.

- The original demo of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and studio outtakes - unheard, until now.

Produced and Directed by Simon Lupton and Rhys Thomas - Edited by Christopher Bird

(60mins)

Could be interesting... I hope somebody can record it. :)
That time will come, one day you'll see, when we can all be friends... ("The Miracle", Queen, 1989)

Wow, this looks awesome !
I hope that they didn't use in this upcoming documentary interviews from Days of Our Lives.

Maybe the Hyde Park snippets will serve as a presentation of how will the possible 2016 live release sound and look like.

It could have been the bonus material on the Odeon release... Pretty good news anyway.

I'll say it before someone else does:
NIH from TOTP would have made a GREAT bonus on the Hammy boxset.
Bet we only get a snippet in the doco :(

Of course they leave it to the documentary, and naturally it will be commerically available at some point. They need all the money they can get.

I'd say that the WHOLE documentary would have made a very good bonus.

Using footage of a 3rd party you need to clear the rights. A simple one off broadcast is a fraction of the costs compared to clearing the rights for a world Wide dvd release.

I was thinking if they'll do it like they did with the The Great Pretender documentary. I think BBC broadcasted a shorter edited version. Interestingly that shorter TV version had some bits in it that the full version didn't have.
