Isn't BBC HD also easy to record, get it out of the box (usb hard drive or whatever) as the SD? I'm assuming it is, but i don't know. As you say, i could be wrong.

No it isn't and yes you are.

It's often cheaper to acquire rights to certain things if it's only a single broadcast as opposed to a release.
In this day and age of recording from TV in HD, this is not a problem for us.

What does ''rushes''? Why can't they use the word "outtakes" )

It's easy to record in HD, agreed.
But my HD recordings are locked in the PVR as there is no means I know of to transfer them.
This is a problem for me!

reply to "@Queen4everBlog just tv as far as I know. There is no director's cut etc it is as is. It's fun. Brilliant out takes from the song"
As for the HD...
There are millions of tv recordings made from HD channels over the years from around the world. Even from the BBC. The last one i got my hands on was U2's set Live in Paris from two nights ago. I have for example U2 in Glastonbury and seasons 14 to 22 of Top Gear in 1080i. Last Stargazing Live episodes (the ones broadcasted arround the time of the last eclipse of the Sun) also in 1080i. Many Underground/Train documentaries from the BBC. BBC Horizon, Timeshift and Storyville documentaries. About music (When Albums Ruled the World or Sound Of Cinema), many science/maths/phisic and related documentaries presented by Prof. Brian Cox or Prof. Jim Al-Khalili. The list goes on.... And i'm in Portugal, i get them from the internet. That's why i wonder how is it difficult to get the recordings in HD to share. There must be a way to get them.
Before i got a new TV on my bedroom i had a USB digital tv tuner connected to my PC and the areal antenna directly connected to it. We don't have HD channels but i could record directly from the broadcast to my pc and share with everyone.
Have you tried a USB digital TV tuner? Connect the antenna to it and to your pc and try to record? Or is it impossible to use a USB digital tv tuner in the UK to watch your channels "on the go"? Many times when i go camping i use my laptop and the USB tuner to watch tv (the tunner also comes with a small portable antenna). Sure you can do that in the UK, watch digital terrestrial TV on the laptop using a USB tuner?
edit: found this from Freeview, but maybe they could also make this difficult to take out the HD recordings, i don't know http://www.freeview.co.uk/articles/news-and-features/feature/all-about-usb-tv-tuners.html or http://www.amazon.co.uk/August-DVB-T210-Television-Definition-Compatible/dp/B008D8K50Q If that doesn't let you get the recordings out, you could try USB tuners from other brands like Avermedia (i have AVerTV Hybrid Volar HD), Pinnacle or Hauppauge. Just search for "USB tv tuner" on google and make sure the product specifications match the UK digital terrestrial tv so they'll work in that territory.
If that doesn't work (and i doubt it won't), many, if not all USB digital tunners, also work as a capture device. Connect an external device to it and it will capture what that external device is broadcasting. So, instead of connecting the HDMI cable from the youview box to your tv, connect the HDMI cable to the USB device and use the capture options. The youbox won't know if the HDMI cable is connected to a tv or not.

You do understant that USB digital tv tuners are completely legal right? Even Freeview site has an article about them, maybe you didn't read it so i'll share it again http://www.freeview.co.uk/articles/news-and-features/feature/all-about-usb-tv-tuners.html "TVs are not the only way for you to enjoy Freeview’s selection of channels. Now you can open up your computer to a whole new world of great television with the addition of a Freeview USB TV Tuner."
And i add: any USB tv tuner you chose to use, just make sure it matches UK tv specifications.
It's not now, NOW, but since TV is in the air that you can use a USB tv tuner, analog or digital. Between 2004 and 2008 i even had a pc card for satellite tv.
If the "illegality" you're talking is about sharing tv recordings in Queenzone.... you kidding right? With the post number you have, you're not new to this site. You are fully aware that tv recordings have been shared in this site for years!

I looked into this a bit more and a guy over at TTD uses one of these stand alone boxes rather than a dongle.
http://www.augustint.com/en/productmsg-34-56.html
He says:
You can get them in the UK on e-bay for under £20
It records HD as single 1080 mts file
Format USB stick to NTSC otherwise file is divided into chunks.
Make sure box has latest firmware (available on August website)
Make sure you have a decent signal.
One hour of HD approx 2GB - 2.5GB.
Play file from USB through box or VLC player on a PC.
Alternatively, edit file on a PC.
You should be very happy with the results.

Hum i think it also could be a solution. Non-branded (meaning not locked to any specific service) setup-boxes. It should have DVB-T2. I have two of those here in my home in Portugal, but not from that brand, but they don't have DVB-T2 because we don't use it in Portugal. Though those weren't available in the UK, that you would have to use specific setup-boxes for basic areal free digital tv (the ones Freeview list on their site).
