… I work for an organisation many thousands of times bigger than QPL, and you will have personally benefitted from my employer, so your personal and petty insults really don't work on me I'm afraid. And if you're going to call me a twat, don't then say 'sorry' for doing so, as that's rather spineless and pointless! Shame.
GB: Oooooooh! cmsdrums. Get you and your "organisation many thousands of times bigger than QPL"
I think I struck a nerve.
You teasing tantaliser you… "I will have personally benefitted from your employer" will I. I'm all suitably intrigued and impressed now.
Is your company ANDREX? Is it toilet rolls that I've benefitted from, from your employer?
That would be appropriate for so many reasons!
This is literally part and parcel what I was describing in page 8 of the other thread.
Hope it was worth all the energy, instead of responding to far more legitimate inquiries that you've ignored.

He won't answer it. He's too busy talking about toilet paper and taking the bait from some Dutch guy in another thread.

Or perhaps he doesn't know either. FAIK, his role is that of an archivist, but once QPL have the tape contents, they've got other people to deal with sound editing, remixing, remastering and the such. They'd be the ones to ask, not Greg.

I know he won't answer legitimate questions - he's a hack. He's not even a proper archivist.
As I mentioned earlier (page 3), he's simply keeping storage. He's not actually archiving anything.

How easy it would be just to say "I don't know anything about that, I don't deal with that side of things." My opinion is that he's aware but just not answering because it's a touchy question.

This thread really has gone full retard, as Marknow said. Pity really, because Greg does have some interesting information to give, although he is indeed very selective of the questions he answers. He particularly likes to avoid the more salient ones.
I'm sorry Greg, I know it's hard to deal with all these fans here, some of which are very antagonistic. But I think you do feed the trolls sometimes too. That business with the Dutch chap in the other thread, about meeting him in Holland etc... was a bit much. On the verge of turning into a dick measuring contest.

I've tried pming Justin Shirley Smith to no avail - I'd have no clue how to contact those involved beyond that. Nonetheless, Greg's stated that he listened to the tapes prior to their being used for the Rainbow release, so he knows what Freddie's vocals sounded like unaltered, and hence might be able to provide insight into why QPL might've felt they needed changing.

For some people (I don't know if that includes GB or not), it can be unbelievably massively difficult to admit something like that.

Perhaps that's what he wants you/us to think.

Theoretically, yes. But, then again, FAIK, he's not a voice expert and doesn't necessarily have eidetic memory. Not that you would need it... but not everyone would pay the same attention to those details.

He will not answer and i´m almost certain no one will answer because people are asking with judgement in their words. "Hey pal, why did you use autotune on Freddies voice?" but what they really mean is "Hey, why did you have to use that thing that only fake singers use and corrupt the voice or one of the greatest singers of all time?"
You will never win with the answer you give because people already made up their minds about auto-tune, and how they shouldn´t have used it in the first place.
How can people expect that the "Hyde Park" concert will ever be released without studio magic considering that the band was hardly in tune?
And people loved Rainbow when it came out, only when someone pointed this out, others started to jump in on the discussion, meaning that maybe, just maybe they did a good job. I don´t know, because i haven´t heard it myself. I´m just going by people´s reaction on this board.

The ones that pointed the AutoTune/Melodyne were mostly people like me who has worked with it, or has dealt with it in some way (even just hearing and recognising).
For the common deaf tone dude it sounds great. But for the experienced in some way, it just sounds awful. And that's not their target.
So, they did a good job. But a job for the common Joe, not for musicians or fans. And that bothers me a lot.

It goes without saying: releases are made thinking about the general public, not musicians or fans.

In most cases, but Rainbow surely was not targeted at the general public. 90% of those who bought it would have delighted to see ffms on the set list and then noticed the auto tune or that it sounded odd.
Sebastian · Member since
Judging by sales and ratings, quite a large portion of the buyers didn't notice or didn't care. Some did, of course, but not enough to cause QPL to notice and the damage had been done anyway.

Which is why Queen is becoming ever-so-slightly more irrelevant for every year that passes.
