Looks like I am making myself a fool again.... ta !no problem with that :)

Here is my question. Do we KNOW that John was part of the recordings for the Queen/ RW Version of WATC in 2001?
Did he quit during the recordings and simply drop his job ?
If he was there, at least for a meeting or a rehearsal it adds more substance to his quote about RW

"I don`t want to be nasty, but Robbie Williams is no Freddie Mercury"

Was he unsatisfied with RW`s talent ?
Was he pissed that everyone in the room starts predending "Hey this is the new QUEEN" ?

A lot of options are free to conjecture about...

On the promo for that version is Brian May listed as the bass player. So Mr. Deacon wasn´t really part of that recording.

Well of course. That counts for the final product for sure. But there are a lot of options before that point. That`s why I have also mentioned meetings / rehearsals.

KNOW? No. Speculate? Well.. this is Queenzone.... lets turn it into a discussion about what should be released in the next year..... and......... GO!

I've always thought that quote is fake.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

John had fuck all to do with A Knights Tale version of WATC, and the quotes attributed to him Re Robbie Williams are quite simply true.
Arse.

I never believed John Deacon said this, for the simple fact that at the time i´ve read that it was a phone interview with John.
As far as i´m aware the last time John spoke publicly was in a 1995 message to Queen fans at the convention:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcznhgjT44Y

After this he didn´t participate in "Champions of the World" or any other documentary about the band. It was even claimed he said that the finished result of WATC was rubbish or something along the same lines.
I doubt that he gave this phone interview!

I don´t even think John ever gave an interview to guitar player mags or Bass player mags in all these years, let alone tabloids.

Having said this, i remember an old site in geocities where a fan spotted John Deacon at a festival around this time and expressed his concerns about the fact that Robbie was becoming the new Queen frontman. According to this fan John said to not worry, because it would never happen.
He took a couple of pics of John with a cap on, and long hair, denim jeans and some boots on. At the time he looked like a beggar :-)

So, there you have it. Even if i don´t believe John said it, maybe he felt what Queen fans felt at the time.

As for the other question, i don´t believe John was ever a part of this project, because it was never mentioned anywhere. And i don´t think John would leave a project unfinished after he agreed to it.

Any chance of finding that photo? Did he look like AKOM beggar John, or a totally new beggar John?

I have three problems with the 'interview' in The Sun:

I don't think John would have been at an event like a 'Pop Bitch' gossip column launch

Even if he were, would he really have given an interview, and do tho words really sound like him?

If the quotes are genuine, did they get them from him by 'foul means', ie make him believe they were a fan or general attendee rather than a member of the Press?

All total bullshit, John has kept himself to himself since the end of the 90's, The Sun simply makes 98% of their paper up to fill the bloody thing up and make people buy it by trying to have fake celebrity headlines, never believe ANYTHING you read in any tabloid and only 5% in a broadsheet. Simple

Yes as the others have said, it's highly unlikely that John Deacon would be at a "Save Pop Bitch party" - this is a man who has done his best to lead a very private life. Can you imagine him all of a sudden deciding to attend some party and start spouting fairly offensive remarks about a famous popstar? Doesn't seem like John to me. Why would he care about Pop Bitch anyway? Seems like a pretty random event for him to decide to be at. The guy didn't even attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction FFS

The "Robbie Wiliams is no Freddie Mercury" quote has been repeated time and time again because it makes the sort of sound people like to here. Who knows, he might have really thought that in private, but I doubt he ever said it on record.
