To PLAY the Devils Advocate...I hope this is a common term around the world and doesn`t lead to pointless insultings ;)
Why should JD go to such an event like Pop Bitch
He had business interests
He was bored
He was drunk/stoned/ on Meds...AGAIN !!!
RW will never replace FM...
True in hindsight...PR and AL replaced Freddie. They are not better or worse than RW.
I `ve played in a Band myself...if you asking the bass Player about what`s going on in a Band and you get a reply...it is as good or as bad as an article printed in "The Sun"
It doesn`t have to be true.

"Ok Moogy...you have the permission to do your speculations :)...
....IF it didn`t end up like your weird thesis about "Dragon Attack" "
Remind me?!

Having said this, i remember an old site in geocities where a fan spotted John Deacon at a festival around this time and expressed his concerns about the fact that Robbie was becoming the new Queen frontman. According to this fan John said to not worry, because it would never happen.
He took a couple of pics of John with a cap on, and long hair, denim jeans and some boots on. At the time he looked like a beggar :-)
So, there you have it. Even if i don´t believe John said it, maybe he felt what Queen fans felt at the time.
As for the other question, i don´t believe John was ever a part of this project, because it was never mentioned anywhere. And i don´t think John would leave a project unfinished after he agreed to it.

Any chance of finding that photo? Did he look like AKOM beggar John, or a totally new beggar John?
I don´t know if this is the exact photo, but you´ll get an idea of his style at the time.
It´s interesting that the more i look at the pic the more i think it is the one, but i thought he was wearing a red jacket like the guy behind him. Interesting how the mind works.
You can find this picture on page 12 in the Queenzone picture section - John Deacon, and a similar picture on page 11 with him with the cap on. Great style :-)

In 1995 I was lucky enough to meet John Deacon and I can tell you without hesitation that he was an incredibly shy individual, very uncomfortable at first meeting but after he realised I was simply saying hello and not after anything he was polite and grateful. Sadly he was 180 degrees away from what you would expect a rock star to be, I find it almost unthinkable that he would speak to a jounalist from that point on, he clearly didnt even like being out in public.

Sorry - but there's no doubt John said that to a reporter. No doubt it wasn't part of a formal interview and was maybe a bit pissed, but if he hadn't even been at that event it would have been reported somewhere.

Of course there is doubt, substantial doubt in fact ... and the whole 'if he hadn't even been ...' is nonsense ... the overwhelming majority of the info you find on tabloids is pure rubbish, and odds are, this is part of said rubbish.

I'm guessing by that comment you're one of those people that think the Daily Mail is actually a 'NEWS' paper...

The best (or worst) US equivalent of the British tabloids, I would say, is that ghastly publication the National Enquirer, which constantly publishes complete lies, or half-truths, at the expense of people's reputation.

You have to laugh at the phrase "but there's no doubt John said that to a reporter" Seriously...? You really think if you read it in a paper it's true? These papers are there for two reasons, one to entertain and the other is to spin a political line defined by the editor, The entertainment side is simply rubbish that they make up to fit a photograph, the better the picture or the bigger the celeb the more the paper will sell, and that is the bottom line, without sales they all lose their jobs... so just fill it with anything they can, just ask pretty well any celebrity how many times they have successfully sued a paper, Elton, Hugh Grant etc... heard of the levinson report? no... Google it.
The second and more distrubing thing is these papers spin political stories, they only publish one side of any discussion or argument, so you NEVER get a balanced informed read, you only get what the Editor wants you to read... So go make your informed decisions based on what the Daily Mail tells you and you might as well had in your voting card to a squirrel, cause he will have a better idea of the truth.
Facts are very hard to find in the world of the News papers, TV and media, you get more truth about what is actually happening by reading Twitter and seeing at least both sides of a discussion.
So when you say 'there is no doubt' unless you were the journalist, trust me there is more doubt than anything else...

I'd say there's more doubt than anything else *especially* if you were the journalist.

I don´t even think John ever gave an interview to guitar player mags or Bass player mags in all these years, let alone tabloids.
In 1979 leading up to The Crazy Tour he did a brilliant in depth interview with International Musician (a long out of circulation UK mag) in it he talked about how he joined the band, the recent US tour and his equipment. I believe this is the only proper in depth interview he did.
As regards to the UK gutter, tabloid, press many things get reported as actual conversations but are often third hand quotes if not complete fabrications

That interview i would like to read!
