This track from an old cassette is a revelation. At last, we have a good quality copy of the full introduction to the BBC version of Ogre Battle.
Previous versions were umpteen tape generations from the master, and this one is not too far - maybe one or two. The tape is a typical late 80's TDK D90.
It is now completely clear that Brian recorded two versions of the intro, one after the other, the second of which was used for last year's "On Air" release. What is presumably the recording engineer can be heard between takes. At the end of the first take (@ 0:33) we can hear the tape being abruptly stopped, which wasn't really audible before.
The sound quality is nearly as good as the official release, although slightly distorted in the loudest moments. But that distortion comes from a previous cassette copy down the line, as this one was certainly not transferred hot.
We're left with this question - was the intro recorded during the same session as the song itself? This tape may be from the FM broadcast of the session on December 6, 1973, but the space between the intro and the song proper is a curious one (and perhaps a bit long for radio), with no audible edit heard. And with Brian May's guitar tone being so different at 1:20 and 1:25, one can only wonder what exactly we're hearing. After all, if it was from the same session, why would only this section of the song have been reportedly "damaged" for so many years? As heard here and on the On Air release, the tape is just fine !
BBC Master > cassette (x) > WAV > FLAC level 8
I've included two versions of the song:
01) cassette (the untampered with cassette transfer)
02) 2017 version (the complete intro from the cassette, and the song proper from 1989's "At the Beeb")
I elected to use the 1989 version because it is a bit brighter sounding than On Air.
Thanks to Brian's Wig for transferring his tape !

I am not a troll and I am not an idiot.
I expressed my point of view after listening to what you have posted. Or I don't have the right to Express their thoughts? I have every right, even if it is at odds with thoughts from other speakers. for God's sake do not share . We won't die

And this is not a English lesson. Don't make a farce out of the blue.

Fuck right off. You have trolled this website for years.
Compare the length of this track to the one on On Air, and then apologize for your inability to do basic arithmetic, never mind inability to realize how lucky you are to get this new music without any effort besides making a couple mouse clicks.
I have not trolled I am taking conversation with nice people
I won't compare because I have expressed my point of view and YOU are offended.

OK, did it sound better than this one?

Your view is irrelevant. It's not my fault that you have a complete inability to notice that there are 40 seconds of audio here that aren't on the On Air release.
You have no idea how stupid you are.
I have idea how nice I am
My opinion matters, because I have expressed it.
And I perfectly know what and where was cut
You have no idea how Obama you are

Yes - leaps and bounds.
I put the link back. If other people are going to denounce this dickhead and his absurdity, then I might as well leave it up.

Again - your opinion is unwarranted and completely irrelevant, because you can't read and you are clearly deaf.
Or you are a troll.
Either way, until some kind of formal intervention happens here, I'm out.
So go outside and take a pill from arrogance.
Thank you.
