I don't know why you think we don't care to hear about your story, Thor. We aren't bored! We do want to know about you. You're more than just Freddie Mercury's friend. You've got a life of your own and a story to tell.

You've done more than I have, that's for sure. Definitely more determined. I spent far too long wasting time right out of high school. I got good grades and my father wanted me to follow in the family footsteps and become an attorney. But I fooled around in school and got kicked out. I then thought about giving it all up when I married a man who had me absolutely convinced that I was best suited to be a stay at home wife and arm candy at company functions.

I got my crap together, bumped his ass and got back into school in TX. Of course daddy wasnt willing to pay for school after I screwed up the last time around so I'm broke and will be swimming in debt for a while still but who cares lol. I graduated! And am an attorney!

But to think of all the time I wasted. I read stories like yours and see the drive you had at a young age and I just kick myself for pissing away my earlier opportunities. If id had the sense you did, I would have graduated sooner. And probably would have saved on divorce costs LOL

Did you always want to be in the medical field? Was that something you wanted as child or something more practical you decided to go with after high school? You always hear the phrase "There is always work in the medical field". That is, were you always passionate about it or was it something you went with for work stability and found a love for it?

Thor,

Not dull by any stretch. I bet your father and grandfather had some great stories to tell! From prior comments you've made, it seems like your nursing career was both challenging and deeply rewarding. Sounds like you made the right choice. Imagine all the people whose lives you've touched over the years. That's a pretty great legacy!

I lived on Long Island for 2 years. (Levittown) Was also a bio major at one point...but changed my major after a couple of years.

Yes, I did see the list...just figured you might have been with Freddie during one of those meetings.
R
Villiers,

I guess life is not always a straight line from "there to here". Becoming an attorney is no small feat! Congrats on that accomplishment.

Thor,

I agree with Villiers....love to hear your stories. Don't ever think that we are not interested in any background you care to share with us.

Hey there Rainbow and Villiers
Ladies, thank you. Your comments make me feel very good. I'm so glad you both are here! ...mmwwwwaaaahhh!

It's great to hear from you Thor and interesting to read your life story. It's not boring at all. I've been reading this thread for a while (not participating) and it feels we're getting to know you, so why not!

I will show people this thread next time someone dares to insinuate Freddie's friends were all user bums. (Yes unfortunately, that is often said) and I always fight the New York Daughters' corner, just because Freddie looked so happy in photos of you all!

Your experience with Roy Cohn sounds scary lol. Creepy how people try to buy you with sexual favours *shudder*. PS Celeb stories are all good if it's not in a braggy way. Very interesting about Olivia Newton John. People underestimate how much people need to be closeted.

He met Mary in a shop; she'd dated Brian. He did have someone else at art school though

Yes, the girl before Mary was from Art college. She recently wrote a book called 'Life, Art and Freddie Mercury,' I found it really interesting because of that era (early 70's holds some fascination for me, magical childhood). Her name was Rosemary Pearson but when Freddie got famous she changed her name to Rose and dropped the Mary (too many people were seeking her out thinking she was his current Mary). So as her surname is now Rose, it is Rose Rose who is the author of the book.

There is actually a fictionalized story based on her relationship with Freddie out. The character George is heavily inspired by him and basically it's the author's ideas about the kind of things that might have been going on in Freddie's head during his relationship and his early days hiding his sexuality from his band Ermine. There are sex scenes too lol.

I've read The Virtuoso in the Closet, and although all the characters have been renamed, you can tell the author has done an awful lot of research into Freddie Mercury's life with the creation of George. You totally get the sarcastic, funny, camp Freddie vibe from him and it paints a nice picture of the late 60s post Sexual Offences Act 1967, right up to the dawn of the glam rock era 1971.

I particularly liked the music references and like the real Freddie Mercury, he sings all the time, mid conversation (something his college friends remarked upon)

It references homosexuality in private schools, resulting confusion and the realisation "George" is gay not bi, but shows his need to act that way to fit in with his hetero musician friends, because he thinks rock stars cannot be gay. It also reflects the journey from Jimi Hendrix fan wannabe to fully fledged closet musical genius right up to the point he meets his "Mary", a welsh jewellery designer!

Also...this is relevant to what Thor said re: Roy Cohn trying to pay his way into nursing school in return for sex: "George" has a scary experience with a music industry shark who wants "a bit of the other" in return for a record deal so plies him with substances to get him to loosen up a bit lol

Welcome dysan,
Interesting phrase "Bump above the spam", care to elaborate?
T
Welcome Sponge Caves,
Thank you for your kind words and your comments on a book I was not aware of. Perhaps another book for my reading list in the winter.
T
Sponge Caves...small correction,
Roy Cohn said he could get me admitted into a Medical School program. He did not say he would pay for it, at least not until I proved "worthy" .
No thank you.

just wondering did Freddie ever express a liking for women's breasts to you because he dedicated his solo album to breasts and and also he said he liked the bigger breasts the better in the intro to fat bottomed girls on stage. he mentioned boobs a lot

thanks

A Barbara comment again. He dedicated the album to many things including cats, Mary, his bandmates, staff and his actual partner Winnie (for 'board and lodging') It wasn't just "I hereby declare this album is dedicated to women's chest appendages".

Okay here's my opinion:

It was just a playful novelty for him. He was just mucking about. My friend works in a gay bar and the "screaming queens" all ask her if they can touch her tits. She said it's just a playful thing for them; they're not deriving sexual pleasure from it and neither does she (she's a lesbian!); they're just appreciating lol. Also with the stage thing, Freddie had to please his adoring female fans. Of course he was going to joke around like that.

HEY THERE, GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!

My computer got stuck and I was unable to read pgs 66 to 69. Did I miss anything good?...LOL...NOT

So, there were a few small easy questions in that Prize Fight. Would those who asked please repeat
their questions. I can no longer get to page 66, 67, 68 and 69 because they are loaded with landmines
and poison gas...LOL

Oh, I think I remember a question if Freddie ever did E. Well, I know for an absolute fact that he did it
once because I did it with him. I think it was in Chicago after his 2 concerts but I may be wrong about
the location. I never heard that he ever did Ecstasy again. When he wanted to indulge, it was Coke all
the way and he did not like settling for Pepsi again although it was rather tasty.

Cheers Thor. I think it's not outlandish to suggest then that a man of his abandon may well have done E again in Munich. After all those were his dark days after the fun of New York.

The lyrics of My Love is Dangerous refer to his Munich days if I recall correctly?

Hi Thor,

I have a question about Freddie's of stage dressing style.
What was your opinion about it? Was he a good dresser in everyday life or not so much?

It may be my imagination, but i think he had a very utilitarian approach to dressing. Also, similar to many creative minds in arts or sciences fields, he seems to have had a tendency to wear "uniforms". By uniform i mean same style clothes time after time (e.g :Steve Jobs).

As an example, few pages back i posted pics of Queen signing at a NYC record store. In those pics Freddie is wearing a striped t-shirt.
There are other photos of him in the same time period in NYC where he is wearing a same t-shirt; as if he had some kind of attachment to that piece of clothing.
Nothing really matters in the end.
