All,
Someone a long time ago asked me what other famous people I had met or know somewhat. I ignored it at the time because I usually
don't like name-droppers. But since someone ASKED me, I have a moment and I will type it out now.

I served dinner to Barry Manilow (cheap tipper ...like 8% while the normal was 15% to 20%)

I met Roy Cohn through Lew Katz at his house on Fire Island by what I thought was just a coincidence. It was 1977 and I had just not been
admitted to Medical School. At this time I had no idea what a criminal Roy Cohn was but I did know he was the main lawyer during
the "McCarthy Era" and that gave me some pause. He told me that he knew the Directors of a Medical School in Ohio (I forget which one)
He seemed sincere about helping me and invited me to his mansion in Greenwich, Connecticut. After a nice dinner and a lot of booze,
it became obvious that if I wanted to go to that Medical School where he had connections, I was going to have to have a sexual relationship
with him. I left in a hurry and drove back to New York (It was the evening of the famous NEW YORK CITY BLACKOUT. I actually got to see
the Empire State Bldg. go dark as well as everything else). So weird.

I also served dinner to Alan Sues if anyone remembers the show "Laugh In" (He tipped well..lol).

I met Bette Midler when her bathtub overflowed in the bar I worked at Marie's Crisis two floors below her apartment.(Very apologetic and sweet).

When I worked for 2 years as a stagehand (my father's and grandfather's main careers) I met many of the soap stars whose names I do not
remember.

I worked on the set of Saturday Night Live in the very early days. I set-up the beach scene for a skit called "Beach Blanket Bimbo" Gilda Radner
could not have been more lovely. Signed an autograph for Joe Scardilli (his favorite comedian) and gave me many compliments when she looked
over the set I had built (no, not designed).

At Studio 54 I met Truman Capote, Andy Warhol, Liza Minelli, and Margaret Trudeau

Through Freddie, I met Cliff Richard and Dave Clark .

I sat next to the box at Wembley where Mick Jagger was sitting, but he didn't seem to want to meet anyone.

I've met Olivia Newton John twice in front row seats where I was able to ask her a question as part of her routine. And met her once with her
uhhh.... "business partner " Pat, at Macy's in San Diego for a "Koala Blue Store" meet and greet. When it came to the photograph, I said ..Hey,
I'd like Pat in the picture too...LOL Olivia was thrilled to have her girlfriend..I mean, business partner, included...lol

This is getting boring so I will stop here.

Thor, you didn't meet any of the support acts on the magic tour then? One of them was INXS, shows how huge Queen were to have INXS as support. I wish they'd chuck a bone and have support acts now but I digress.

Heard a story from the magic tour regarding Fred.

Apparently Fred liked to have his own space before going on stage, some time away from the band even. Probably for a toot and some voddy. Anyhow Stuart Adamson didn't know or chose to ignore the sanctimony of Fred's pre gig dressing room time. He meandered in and said "Alright Freddie, good luck" to which Fred replied "And who the fuck are you?" Somewhat taken aback the response "I'm Stuart from Big Country" to which Fred replied "Scotland's not a big country dear, now kindly fuck off and leave me in peace". He had no bloody idea who they were!

May not be true but makes me chuckle.

You'd be amazed to know how much of Hollywood is closeted, PJUSA. I won't name names but I knew I guy when I worked at the LGBT center who slept with quite a few "straight" actors and musicians in Hollywood and NY. He had his own photo album filled with proof.. That's all I'll say LOL

Or so he says.

Ok, here is a silly question, did Freddie wear pajamas?

Freddie looks so young in the second. Looks relaxed and playful.

What a fucking tragedy.
S
You can tell he's relaxed cos he's not hiding his teeth! Which he totally didn't need to do...though I guess we all have features we hate.

Hey captainjory,
Your comments to Plasma Pen about your female friend is hilarious and so true. With all my (nearly exclusively male) gay bar experience,
If a woman with big breasts came in, the boys would oogle over nothing more than the size, but if she was into the male gay scene and
was a bit of a vamp, she would not mind at all that she suddenly became the center of attention. Gay men just seem to like BIG...lol.

Hi Rainbow,
I missed this until now.
HaHa ...My family lived in Levittown, Long Island with my brother and sister until I was born. The house in Levittown only had two bedrooms.
So they moved when they found a three bedroom house. What a coincidence Rainbow...we are almost related... sis. LOL

Welcome cmsdrums,
I guess the newer generation does not know why anyone would have to pretend they were not gay. In the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's
if you wanted a career acting, singing, footballing, etc. etc. you HAD to hide it or you would go nowhere. In the 90's you could come
out gay, but you better have become VERY famous. If you started out openly gay you would never be famous. Paul Rudd was known
to be gay and got only small roles in forgetful movies. As of 2000, things turned around and he started getting more and more leading
roles.
Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Lisa Marie Presley...turned to the brainwash method at the Church of Scientology to become "straight" in
order to swing rumors away from them.
T
Hey Shivili,
Freddie dressing. On stage, in my time with him, he pretty much dressed like any gay man of that era...Tight pants, tank-top (singlet)
but would still add the occasional red boa, suspenders (not gay at all), Prior to this, before I knew him, his dress on stage was outlandish
gender bending, and often changed between short breaks. Hence the comment "Dahling, when you have nothing left to give, give them
WARDROBE!" and the comment, "Oh Dahling, I looked ridiculous (then)...but it WORKED!"
He wore stripes a lot because horizontal stripes tend to make a narrow chest and shoulders look broader. At home he wore jeans
and tee shirts. During the 80's in New York, he wore what everyone was wearing. The look was nicknamed the "Gay Leisure Suit" namely
bluejeans, tee shirt or tank top, and then, denim jacket or leather jacket depending on the season.
S
Villers, I love those pictures! Look at Phoebe's little brown shorts. lol. They looked like they had a blast. What fun!

Hello LOTV,
To again prove what a musically ignorant person I am, I have to answer your question like this:
I MAY have met INXS band members but I had no idea who the individual members were.I just
recognized INXS songs; not band members, just like a few years before, I knew Queen but did
not even recognize Freddie Mercury when we stood face to face. Quite embarrassing to admit
this...LOL
