to add on, the headline was "All The Queen's Men." Disgusting!
Damn,
I am almost glad I did not know much of this and it seems Freddie did not want to burden us with this crap.
John Murphy was my friend. If standing next to someone in a photograph makes them a "lover," well, then
I've had hundreds of lovers. John never had sexual contact with Freddie. What a crock of shit to make up
stories about a departed soul. Disgusting!

hey Darthritis,
Thanks for the pics. It's good for me to know this stuff. I will always try my best to preserve the honest memory of these
two good friends and lovely gentlemen. "The Sun" needs to change it's name to "The Bowels of Hades."

Great name change! I wonder if "The Sun" is the equivalent to the National Inquirer here in the states?
Equally disgusting is a full page story of Freddie that ran in the "The Bowels of Hades" with the title "Tragic Face of Freddie Mercury" It shows an obviously gaunt and frail Freddie in a photo that takes up half of the page. Or another story entitled "Top Aids Docs See Freddie Mercury" again with a photo of him looking rather thin.
These people are soulless!

Rubbish paper, let's put it this way, I would be embarassed to be seen buying it or reading it on the train!
Oh I agree, it's utterly immoral. I felt a bit dirty even attaching those pictures. In the UK, The Sun is often rechristened The Scum but The Bowels of Hades is very apt. That's its name from now on. It'll be because of those articles, that the lie about Freddie and John being lovers is constantly regurgitated in all the biographies and documentaries. Nobody has stopped to question it.
As well as not wanting to burden you, I'll bet that Freddie regarded the time he had left with his true friends as precious and didn't want to dwell on it.

And if you're in Liverpool, of course, you'd struggle to buy it even if you wanted to.

I believe Freddie gave a good response to the bowels of hades a few days later and spoke about how Prenter had no respect for his friends. He once said he was too intelligent to go to the sun of all papers, but of course he was responding to their story.
Maybe someone will know where that link is.

I think this might be the one.
Rainbow and Smoky,
Thank you for your comments on this nasty toiletpaper, I mean newspaper.

That's it, it looks like he never went to that paper anyway.
Darthritis,
Freddie was always such an upbeat person. He would never, ever bring up negativity. He was not the type of person who would dwell
on nastiness. I believe he ignored all the bullshit as best he could but might have quietly commented on this stuff with Peter and perhaps
Mary in private settings.

Why did they feel the need to call it "Gay Fury" ?? Ridiculous!
Equally appalling is the Daily Star with the cover story "Why Are You Hiding, Freddie?"
To maintain an upbeat attitude and to rise above such an invasion of privacy and dignity is to Freddie's credit, but it still must have been painful to be bombarded by that CRAP!
