Either way, I've always wondered what Freddie thought of Diana Ross as she was the Supreme(no pun intended) Diva of that era that Thor knew Freddie.

I'm back. I had a great time with my sister...sorry to see her have to return home.
Based on the most recent conversation, I know Freddie admired Diana Ross but he never went on and on about her or anyone else for that matter...not even his friend Elton John.

Well, a few people wanted to know if there were signs from my mother as I have outlined previously. There were some signs, but perhaps more subtle than the last two Octobers with my sister.
OK, so first while we were watching the sea lions on the exposed rocks in a place called La Jolla Cove, a lone seagull came up to the bannister right next to the bench where we were enjoying the panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. He was only about 1 foot from us and stared at both of us for more than 5 minutes.
Now, when we were growing up on Long Island, we would go to Jones Beach. (Yes the same beach Freddie and the group went to).
At that time in the '60's, there was a book called "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" which was very popular. A lone seagull came within 1 foot of my mother standing on the boardwalk and she said it was Jonathan Livingston Seagull. After several future visits to the same area, a few times more, a lone seagull came up to my mom. (I have no idea if it was the same seagull, but my mother thought it was).
Additionally, San Diego was having the most perfect beautiful weather and pleasant temperatures, so many tourists were out.
Wherever we went it was hard to find parking until we said "Mom, can you let us find a parking spot." Within one or two minutes we found great parking spots, close to where we were going. I don't know, but it seemed like she was watching us.

There is something so peaceful and relaxing about being near the water. Really enjoyed your seagull stories, past and present. To have that experience a few times, yet so many years apart on different coasts is quite memorable. Maybe anything that makes us feel connected to the people we love is a kind of sign. (BTW...I love the story "Jonathon Livingston Seagull". More than 40 years ago, my parents gave me an oval enameled pendant with a copper bird design in the middle. It looks like a seagull with outstretched wings and always reminded me of JLS. The back of the pendant has the word "BLISS" stamped into it. I still wear it!)
On the topic of siblings....I know Freddie usually kept his family and social life separate, but do you recall him ever mentioning anything about his sister? Or maybe I should ask, during the time you hung out together, did you even realize he had a sister?

San Diego for the first time. My sister has preserved it for the future.

It was the summer of 83 when Diana gave that free concert in Central Park that got interrupted by a massive thunderstorm. I think they rescheduled it for another night. It was national news at the time, and I remember them showing it on HBO.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a key motif in my life at the moment too. My ex who's an artist always identified with the seagull in the story as a child. He had many problems growing up and always felt different. He's also gifted with art. He only mentioned this to me recently after we were having a heart to heart and I actually only bought the book a few months ago. (My friend grew up around the same time as you, Thor). I will have to finish reading it now, lol, thanks to the spirit of those birds who've spoken to you and your Mom and Sister. :-)

Disco fans like myself, absolutely loved her collaborations with the BGs. Once, at Studio 54, she made a surprise appearance and sang from the edge of the DJ booth "The Boss." At the end of the song she shouted out to the crowd below..."Who's the boss?", "Who's the boss?" Nearly everyone stopped dancing, pointed up at her and yelled "You Are...You Are Diana" Ha, ha, talk about a Diva! LOL

He got on with his sister but I don't think they were close. Phoebe described them as 'remotely close'. I think friends had to make themselves scarce when the family came over for dinner. Mary was always wheeled out for the occasion!
