I somewhat doubt he would be impressed as he took entertaining his audience very seriously. Not to say that he didn't get shit-faced and fuck up the odd gig but then he was THE original.

the house that my mother grew up in in Kiel. We have/had some distant relatives that lived in Flensburg that I met in 1972,
but I have no idea what has become of them or their children. Too bad really.

When you visited Freddie's apartment in NYC, were there ever any times when you, Freddie, and your friends just relaxed out on the balcony, enjoyed the view and the lights, or was that too mellow an activity? (You mentioned Freddie would go onto the balcony to smoke...however, maybe the balcony wasn't big enough to hold a group?)

The balcony was very large as a matter of fact and could have fit all of us, but I think we only visited it for short
10 to 15 minute periods to admire the city view and "Freddie's Seven Bridges" so spectacularly on display at night.

Thor, what kind of humor did Freddie take to? You said your friends got on with him right away. I'm curious to know what kinds of things they said that got him laughing. He loved surrounding himself with people who could keep his spirits up like that
All this talk of Germany reminds me of when I stayed in Munich for a few days in 2006 with my wife. We really liked the place and decided to go on a bike tour of the city and passing an area next to the river we noticed a bunch of people standing around naked in the middle of the day. I think they were on a lunchbreak or something. Apparently it's perfectly legal as long as they stay in that area, or so the tour guide would have us believe. He also mentioned that one of the nudists was a rather well endowed chap who locals had started calling "the Munich Tripod"! lol He wasn't there that day or perhaps it was a little colder than I remember! On a separate note the tour guide (a guy called Mike) asked for someone to volunteer to ride at the back of the group of cyclists so that nobody would be left behind accidentally as we moved from place to place. He promised me a very special reward afterwards which, to my wife's enduring amusement turned out to be a blue Frisbee with the words "Mike's Ass Man" written on it. Still have it to this day. :)
