Yes, I love you all. You have no idea how wonderful
I feel about sharing my friend Freddie with you all.
but then again, he is YOUR friend just as much
if not more as mine. After all these years, YOU still
keep him alive. What a precious gift you fans have
presented to me and this community. Thank you.

Well we never knew him, Thor. We've read books and seen him on stage but you KNEW him. He was definitely more of your friend lol. To us, he is a musical idol and hero. I don't think he considered his fans his friends. He definitely appreciated us but his real friends were something he leaned on in life like he never did with fans. Peter explained it better than I can, but please know- people like you and his inner circle of friends were considered family to him. We keep his music alive as fans who enjoy it and pass it along to our kids. But YOU and your friends were what brought him joy and inspired him to write those songs we love so much.
I disagree Villiers. If Freddie could communicate with us, I believe
he would definitely consider the people who have stayed loyal to him
and keep his memory alive for 26 years are worthy of his friendship
as well as mine. Hey, even Kurt Cobain said that Freddie loved his
audience (and actually, as much as they loved him. I met Freddie by
fortunate circumstance. Sorry Villiers, we are in this together and I don't
care if this sounds too sappy.

No, I think it's great. Peter always said Freddie appreciated his fans but didn't get close to any of them or let them get involved in his personal life as friends but he didn't know his fans would keep his music alive all these years later, so it's possible. It's certainly a nice thought :)
Right On... Freddie forever
Yes! Thor is staying! Good News! :-)
@Thor
Did Freddie ever ask about your work as a Nurse? Or about the work of your friends?

Some fun photos from Queen signing at Crazy Eddie's music store in NYC in July of 1982. This store was located at 212 East 57th street in Manhattan.
The girl in red shorts is stealing the show though. lol

Once again Thor, THANK YOU for the wonderful memories of Freddie. Your words are worth their weight in gold!!
It's great to know that Freddie had such wonderful, decent friends like yourself in New York. What a contrast to some of the people who leeched off him at home, lousebags like Paul Prenter and raving egomaniacs like Peter Straker.
One just has to look at the photos of you all together, Freddie looks so happy and relaxed in them. What fun it must have been during those years.

Hey Rainbow,
Actually I did not attend Live Aid. I was talking about the 'Kind of Magic" performance
at Wembley Stadium. He was very proud of that concert. Who wouldn't be with hundreds
of thousands of fans raising arms and, on cue clapping to "Radio GaGa".
Yep, and a defining image to many. Yet looking back now his vocal was far from his best despite the physical performance being outstanding. I believe he was already suffering some side affects of his immune system being compromised by then added to the ludicrous workload and demand on his vocal cords. And yet his scales with the crowd are magnificent, truly magnificent.
Yet another example of why he is the greatest front man of all time.
I'm sure you've heard it (maybe you were there, Straker claims to be of course) but his very last live vocal (despite Richard stinking up the other side of the duet) is superb, the rest from touring has really paid dividends for his voice. He was most definitely suffering by that point too. I get very emotional when I listen to it.
Sorry I digress...

HELLO ALL,
I am getting the feeling that this thread has served it's purpose and I may need to
say farewell. It seems that only a small group of people want to participate anymore,
despite about 90 downloads of my pictures.
I will give it until Sept. 30th and then make my decision. After that, I will be glad to
give my email address to anyone who wants to stay in contact, and will ask those
who do, for a private message. I love this thread, but if it has to end, so be it. I want
to thank all of those who have participated even if just once.
If this is how you feel then fair enough. Thanks for your time and honesty, a most generous gesture for Queen fans.
I am sure you have much better things to do than provide scraps for internet geeks to feed off ;-)
Enjoy life.
Hi Thor, think of this forum as being a bit like an iceberg - only way cooler! 90% of the folk loving your participation are hidden from view and the other 10% are doing all the hard work thinking up great questions for you to ponder. So on behalf of the 90% thanks you for reconsidering an early departure! I had a mild panic there when I read that. OK, in the spirit of the 10 percenters here's a question for you to ponder - and I apologise in advance for my lack of imagination.... The video for It's A Hard LIfe is based around the idea of a rich man having everything but feeling life to be a little empty without love. Do you have any thoughts on this video and how it related to Freddie at the time, it was made a year after he left New York. Would you characterise Freddie as a happy person during the New York years as Brian and Roger have suggested his personal life was going through a tough time during the making of Hot Space and afterwards.
Thor,
I'm glad that you stay and if a question is repeated, I don't think it's so terrible, it's important that we talk about Freddie, his music and life.
We didn't know him personally, but his music makes us that feel like we really knew him in some way.On this forum members are from all continents I think, and it's nice that we can all share our opinions and impressions here with you.
Here are some of my thoughts about his music and love life (and I'll ask you a few questions about it).
He was a great artist and artists are very sensitive souls. His song which describes him the most in my opinion is Somebody to Love. That song in my opinion actually means "find someone to love ME".
In which his song you recognize him most?
I believe that he felt that most of his lover had seen the rock star in him, not the person he really was.It seems to me that many of his lovers and friends were more important than having a celebrity rock star in company, than to get to know him better as a man and that they were disappointed when they realized that he was completely different from the person he was on the scene.
Of course you did not spend it with him 24 hours a day, but Freddie and you were close friends. For all that time, during your's friendship in New York, did you notice that he was truly in love with his partners at that time? Was he the one who worked on the relationship or were his partners?
Previously in thread, you said that in the company of strangers, he was often invisible and that your friends and you sometimes tried to connect Freddie with someone you thought that was his type of man.
So it's a bit confusing to me that Freddie approached Jim and after Jim refused him, when they met again after almost two years, he was again approached Jim.
According to Jim,Freddie was the one who initiated relationship and the reconciliation after the big arguments in the first year of their relationship.
Song Man Made Paradise it seems to me that the lyrics of the song was inspired by their first encounter. It's possible that I am wrong, but seems that Freddie somehow invited him in his life with this song.
As far as we know about him, Freddie could stay in good and friendly relationships with people who were his lovers or had sex whit him. But with Jim it was totaly diferent.I think Freddie realized that he would never be able to see Jim only as a friend if they had to break up his love relationship. This is a clear distinction between friendship and true love.Maybe they really were destined to each other. The fact that Fredie wore the ring which Jim gave to him and wore it for the rest of his life was very touching to me.Many don't believe in the story of the ring, but Peter Freestone has confirmed on his blog several times that this is true.
Did you notice that ring on his hand when you went to visit him in the London after 1986? ( he got that ring for his birthday that year)
Thanks for you are stay here.:)

Shivili...those are some great pictures.
It's interesting to consider the context of just when these pictures were taken. July 1982 saw Queen touring their first full-bore flop. By July the album had already peaked at #22(lowest for a full studio album since Queen II) and was rapidly falling on the Billboard Top 200.
It looks like they were putting on a brave face.
Thanks to all who continue to support this thread. As this is my first
ever, I really needed the 90% and 10% analogy. I erroneously thought
that the 90% had gotten bored and left. You corrected this notion I had
raucousmonster. Thanks again.
