Sorry for the double post, I got a message saying it hadn't posted, lol
I thought it was cos he hid in mainly gay places with fellow clones so didn't stand out! And clubs are dark inside.
@Thor
When you met Freddie in 1980 they were at the height of his career. Three years later, in L.A. recording The Works, they were a band in a serious career crisis.
My question is, considering the stress of a career spiraling downward, was there ANY change in Freddie from when you first met in New York?
Also @Thor...I know you said you've never cared for Body Language but
1) do you recall ever hearing it on the radio yourself
2)being played in the presence of Freddie on the radio or in a club
3)remember Freddie ever talking about the song?
Hey Prime Jive,
Oh my God, NO.
Queen music was starting to take off in the US. It was a time when videos were still not that popular. We heard Queen on the radio but many had no idea who Freddie was. I don't exactly know why, but maybe it was that mustache and short hair that made him unrecognizable.
I've mentioned before that "Another One Bites the Dust" was playing in that Philadelphia club we went to, where they refused (at first) to let Freddie in because he didn't have ID. The doorman (Mark) at Studio 54 would have recognized him immediately, but that was his job, to know who was famous and who was not. Whereas, gay co-owner Steve Rubel's job was to recognize who was hot and who was not...LOL.
Oh Captainjory,
Freddie never hid and most parts of bars were well lit. Backrooms were dark but
I NEVER saw Freddie go into one and neither did I, If I can't see someones face,
I have no interest in the other things that might go on there..
Did you think Freddie was a good dancer?
Hey RBoulain,
No, I did not even know that Freddie performed in one of the "TIME" shows. I was of the
impression that the show did not even last very long. I may be wrong about this though.
Hello Shvili,
Unfortunately, I mostly did not get to hang out with Freddie during the day. I slept..LOL. I worked at the hospital
7PM until 7:30AM. Although that technically gave me four days off per week, I manipulated my schedule so I had
time to go to various Queen concerts in different citys. Plus, I worked every other Friday, Saturday, Sunday evenings
in the bar. It was difficult to do, but somehow I managed. I depended on friendly co-workers to cover my shifts as
needed.
HaHa PJUSA,
Yes I heard body language on the radio, but to this day, I still poke fun at it.
When Lee or Brandon are talking to much, I say "Don't talk, don't talk, don't talk"...LOL
I don't think any of us thought Freddie's career was "spiraling downward." If Freddie thought
that, he never told me about it.
Freddie was NOT a good dancer!...LOL
Thor it's funny you say that because my friend and I were watching this little gif the other day where he was dancing on stage and we were cracking up at how bad it was lol. Don't get me wrong, he was adorable as usual- but it wasnt what I would call good dancing. I so wish I could show it to you but I have no idea how to upload a gif here.
@Villiers
How would you best describe Freddie's dancing "style" in the video/gif?
