Thanks for the info - just from that quote - I'd imagine that it meant 16 versions of tracks - meant 16 total tracks...not 150 or whatever
But still - some frustrating tidbits there - all could have been included with one extra CD - or they could have thrown in one of the 77 soundboards...

SOTS is an amazing live recording that seems to go on forever, with Fred on lead vocals. Don't expect to discover where it was recorded from though. They're not officially saying, though America in 77 is as close as we'll get (and that wasn't announced by Greg...)
...which means they're sitting on at least two complete US 77 soundboards.
How unbelievably frustrating and sad.
I'll go with that.
I see no reason why they won't tell us the date unless the presented song is an amalgamation of two or more recordings.
The silly thing is, we all know that Queen do overdubs and that the Rainbow DVD was an amalgamation of both nights, yet they werer transparant with that....

To be honest i find all the cloak and dagger secrecy surrounding their archive info to be incredibly tiresome. Comparisons with other bands are inevitable.

Only that Greg played some of the raw sessions tracks.
Don't want to spoil anthing, but WWRY and WATC are pants in comparison to what's due!
SHA is instrumantal with backing vocs only.
FFTI sounds like the finished instrumetal take but with Roger's demo vocs added.

All Dead, All Dead. Just WOW. The best track by far (and yes, Greg played "It's Late" as well.)
I'm saying very little other than expect different vocals, emotionally delivered in places you'd never expect.
Yes. It's ALL Freddie :)
There are still 3 songs missing their multitracks thus one of the reasons there isn't a surround mix (shouldn't have stopped them fromdoing the others though), but most frustratingly there is no acceptable reason why there isn't a studio demo of "Sleeping".
QPL simply decided to include a live version on the disc. Quite frankly, that should have been on D3 with the other live material.
I shan't tell you how many tracks were presented to those in charge before they were whittled down to what they're offering us as it will only make you cry.
Can you tell me something about its late track. Is this different to the original release. So different vocals and guitar riffs....
Concerning sheer heart attack, is it roger who sings the backing vocals?
Really looking forward all dead all dead and sleeping !

Brians thanks for share a review about what greg plays that night, you made my day very happy.
Just one question, what about the quality sound of SOTS? Is a soundboard recording?.
Thanks!

Hmmm.
Soundboard, BUT, it could be from a cassette tape recording rather than a multitrack.
Greg did say at the start of the session that some stuff came from Brian's own collection of cassette tapes, but he didn't say what despite suggesting he would.
That's fair enough: he probably forgot. No cloak and dagger there

brian's wig, re:
>That's fair enough: he probably forgot. No cloak and dagger there
Isn't he supposed to have catalogued Brian's collection? Forgetting or not referring to his catalogue would be pretty remiss....... Oh, yeah......
That WOULD explain the lack of a venue and date but would also mark Brian down as being less exacting in his collecting standards than even the most simple of fans......

Pretty sure there is no multitrack of SOTS. As far as I know, any soundboard recordings will be from cassette tapes.

Seeing as there's a decent live version of SOTS, it's a shame they couldn't have included a live It's Late as well, as presumably it would have come from one of the same recordings.
This box set is so much money, for so little, in terms of interesting content. I know what there is sounds great, but there could have been so much more, and they could have charged less for it by splitting the packages. I know QPL are a business, and the usual business model is to give as little as possible for as much money as possible, but they are simply forcing people to use torrents, therefore reducing actual sales. Why on earth couldn't they have put this out as a 2 or 3 CD set, with a separate limited vinyl edition?

I heard that SOTS included in the album is the take 1. I don't know if they recorded more takes and then they choose the first or just was only one.

GT did suggest in a recent post here that Greg had ‘taken ownership’ of copies of Brian’s casssette collection following a lot of collation and cataloguing by GT, and perhaps as an aside to, and not part of, the official role he is employed under by QPL.

If those archivists didn't take copies of everything for their own personal use they are stupid.
But also .... stealing from your employer lad? Tut.

There is no SOTS demo, it was recorded in one take.
GT · Member since
Although SOTS is a one take recording, it was demoed in the studio and was cut about to make various mixes. It was also one of the quickest songs that Brian ever wrote. He briefly mentions this in the 'Guitar Greats' Radio 1 programme that was broadcast in 1983.
