Michael Jackson is not at the same high level of greatness with Freddie in all that concerns making music or singing.
Their is this current from MJ poor fans to associate him with FM even putting him and the same level of musical skills.
Far from being even closely comparable these two singers.
While Freddie has a clearly largely superior voice he also wrote he's own lyrics composed he's own music, played instruments also live on stage and did all sorts of musical styles successfully.
Meanwhile MJ relied on other people to produce he's songs or co-write his lyrics. He's voice... average nothing special, he's vocal live performances, again average.
Michael Jackson is not comparable to Freddie.

Michael had a fantastic voice, and a malicious SCOWL in later years.
His voice as a child was absolutely amazing.
His abilities to create songs were amazing as well.
He could play piano, drums and percussion (like Randy) but he DID neglect those talents in his later years.
As far as i see it, he essentially quit music from 00-7 to raise his kids. He never got that ambitious stuff back as far as the public knows.
The guys in TOTO have been on record for Michael knowing his shit. He'd actually dictate it to a musician if he couldn't perform it himself.
Other times he'd demo things all with vocals. It's a shame that so few of those have reached the public. The guy got into it so young that he was a musical genius.
But. Like Freddie. ..he neglected it along the way.
Freddie through indulgence
Michael through erosion and fear. He got pretty junked up badly when the allegations derailed his career. And although HISTORY is probably full of his most MATURE content. ..it's neglected because it was fearfully packaged with a greatest hits album.
Yes HISTORY has about 2 filler songs (D.S., COME TOGETHER)
Onstage Michael was the better dancer by far
As well as performer
Freddie on the other hand commanded the audience with power and ferocity.
His live voice wasn't that great.
Two GIANTS of contemporary music. It's kinda ridiculous to compare them when it comes to being whomever s favorite. That's not important. Their work and what they gave to the world is now that they're both gone.
Try not to waste your time getting into that childish bickering. That's for fanboys and fangirls
They're two different beasts.
For god sakes. ..Michael practically lived 3 careers.
I wish Freddie had not succumbed to the excess of his time.

You forgot to mention Quincy Jones when talking about MJ "genius"
Michael Jackson is truly comparable with Madonna, on par.
Also these days comparable to Harvey Weinstein.
PS Right now on radio I'm listening to Prince, that's a genius without quotes.

and Rod Temperton for Thriller.
Oh and he ripped off Bob Fosse hook, line and sinker for his dance moves, look etc.
He also ripped off the undies of little boys for which he paid the parents millions in hush money.

Why should we compare Freddie and Michael?
They are both great artists, their music is for all time.
I love Freddie much more, but I know what kind of importance Michael has in music and I like his music.

As Matt Z said, bringing a little bit of factual deeper knowledge to this conversation, Michael's ability to dictate/compose simply with his words and voice was unreal. To the point where, as Matt Z also said, it's a travesty that we don't hear more of this...
He'd sing notes in a chord, beatbox the beats... just little things, like the beats on Who Is It, They Don't Care About Us, Stranger In Moscow (amongst others) being built form his voice. The hi-hat in Remember The Time is one of my favourite subtle inclusions of his voice being included in the beat.
I could go on and on. To say simply "he couldn't play instruments" really shows a lack of knowledge and understanding. Michael's musical ability went beyond simply being able to play instruments.
(this isn't to say I'm knocking Freddie, far from it).

Ripped off? You mean, combined and perfected a new style that was inspired by Fosse, James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr, Fred Astaire, Jackie Wilson and others.

Who gives a fuck how many accolades got attributed falsely to him, he is not in the same league with Freddie as I said in the first post.
Seen many comments on Queen youtube stuff putting MJ in the same category with Freddie.
He is more like in the same category with Madonna, Shakira, or Rhianna.

He's in his own category.....like PRIMUS.
