Yes. By holy decree. ...greatest/finest song ever....the depths they must have gone to reach that nadir. ...and to hit that peak in writing.
Incredible

By the way. ....every time i use that word I'm stumped.
Do you think that green party and sometimes independent Ralph Nader would've been MORE SUCCESSFUL had he changed his name to Ralph HIGHEST?
I think so.
Or Ralph Crescendo
Ralph Peakness
Ralph Greatest
Ralph Excelsior
heck
Even
Ralph Ordinary

Maybe it's of its time, but ask pretty much any successful British musician from the 60s and 70s and they'll tell you that Cliff and the Shadows were a massive influence on them. They wrote the book on what 60s pop music could be. This band was indeed as influential to British musicians as Elvis was to Americans. Hank Marvin was particularly influential on countless guitar players after him.
Sometimes it's hard to get in 2017 what guitarists in the 60s found inspiring, but if guys like Syd Barrett, Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, David Gilmour, George Harrison, Steve Howe, Tony Iommi, Mark Knopfler, Brian May, Andy Summers, Pete Townshend, (basically every major British guitarist besides Page) all cite him as a big deal, then he really was a big deal.
Even Tommy Emmanuel cites him as an influence, and he is arguably the greatest guitarist alive today.

This is all kinds of weird. The Shadows miming Apache in 1969, with dancers and all. This song inspired countless British guitarists to pick up the instrument in the 60s, but things were moving along so quickly back then that the spaghetti western sound is so dated in a world with Led Zeppelin and King Crimson.

Millenium Prayer is better than Bohemian Rhapsody.
It even edges Galway Girl by Ed Sheercunt.

It's music for people that are closer to death (either emotionally or physically) than I am, and I just have to remember that whenever I wonder why it's worshiped so heavily.

I think it is because he has a very good voice. The pop stars of the 1960's still endure because the generation of fans from those days are still around. The songs from those days are more melodic and easy to sing. That is why they continue to live on because people can sing their songs in karaoke sessions. All the singers in the 1960's have really good and mesmerizing voices.
Take his song "Congratulations". It came in second in the Eurovision song contest at that time but people still remember this song whereas no one remembers which song came in first in that year.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but there is no denying that he has put out some fantastic tunes.
I watched a video last week of him in Oz. He tells the audience that media say nasty things, and one topic in particular they used to hound him with was sell by dates and that he had past his, and says this was back in the 70's.
"Then this happened..."
and went right into Devil Woman. Thought that was outstanding.
Don't get me wrong, he's got a lot of scheidt in that back catalog, but he's playing Glasgow next year and I fancy going just to experience it.

I was a major Cliff fan before I discovered Queen in '86. Back in the early eighties i was in the fan club.
By then his "Golden Period" from 76-83 had gone and his music was pappy.
Ironically, it was his songs from "Time" that put me off buying any more of his albums!
I still play "I'm Nearly Famous" through "Silver" quite regularly.

Cliff Richard has the same dumb smile I’m all his promo photos. He sounds ashamed of his sexuality.
